Marks & Spencer to close stores on Boxing Day as it extends opening hours ahead of Christmas

Marks & Spencer

Marks & Spencer will shut its stores on Boxing Day to help employees to spend time with their families and friends.

But as Christmas approaches, the retailer has also extended its hours to give customers more time to shop for holiday items.

Sources say M&S will keep 300 of its stores open until 11 pm from the 19th to the 23rd of December this year.

M&S stores director Helen Milford said: “Our teams really step up over the festive period to help make Christmas special for our customers, including working extra hours so we can keep our store doors open for longer.

“It’s a busy time for retail so giving our colleagues Boxing Day off is a small thank you for their hard work delivering a remarkable Christmas for our customers.”

M&S returned its 12 Days of Sparks digital advent calendar "bigger and better than before" last week to get into the holiday spirit, following the success of last year's campaign.

Sparks' 16 million customers will be able to access festive treats on the retailer's app and website beginning this month.
