Ocado Retail ‘small restructure’ results in 40 head office job losses

Ocado

Ocado Retail has let go of 40 head office staff as part of a significant restructure of its buying and commercial divisions.

Speaking to The Grocer, the business revealed that as part of an "ongoing effort for efficiency and cost-effectiveness," it had "executed a slight restructure at its head office facility" last month.

A new buying team leadership structure has been introduced, meaning all heads of buying posts have been eliminated as part of the restructuring.

A representative for Ocado told The Grocer that the restructuring "means a more nimble staff and the correct structure moving forward."

The trading team is still hiring despite the downsizing, and there are currently about 10 open positions at various levels of seniority.

The restructuring is the new CEO of Ocado Retail Hannah Gibson's first significant managerial action since she assumed the position in September following the unexpected retirement of Mel Smith in July.
