Job Summary:

Performs a variety of administrative and clerical tasks to facilitate the filing, storage, reporting, retrieval and distribution of patient radiology records for the medical imaging department. Works on routine assignments within defined parameters, established guidelines and precedents.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
  • Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains the medical imaging department database using Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). Serves as records custodian for the department. Greets customers, answers telephones, schedules appointments and examinations, enters orders, processes patient paperwork and maintains detailed records. Retrieves and delivers films/CDs/DVDs and obtains proper patient release authorization in order to make films/CDs/DVDs available for all customers.
  • Maintains orderly and accurate records of all information and films/CDs/DVDs entering and leaving the department, ensuring that consent forms are completed as necessary. Ensures the integrity of patient medical images and data while adhering to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
  • Pulls, prepares and packages films, reprints, CDs and reports for distribution to physicians, surgery departments and outside facilities. Compiles information for department reports, manuals and handouts.
  • Digitizes hard copy images (film, CD or DVD) for transmission to PACS.
  • Merges studies into PACS as required and requested by technologists and radiologists.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
