To save the lives of children with heart disease, we partner with organizations to train medical teams, provide education, and transform health care in underserved parts of the world. One in 100 children are born with a heart defect, and 90 percent of these children live where there is inadequate medical care. I. Objective
The Director of Leadership Giving is responsible for directing the thoughtful cultivation of relationships with new donors and stewarding current donors to strengthen their relationships, engagement and investment with Children’s HeartLink. This critical member of the Children’s HeartLink team will focus their efforts on individuals capable of contributing $5,000 or more annually and will work closely with the Vice President of Development, President, the Director of Marketing & Communications, board members and other stakeholders to manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 125 individuals and private and family foundations.
II. Supervision
This position reports directly to the Vice President of Development and does not have any direct reports.
III. Responsibilities
A. Establish and maintain a portfolio of approximately 125 qualified donor prospects, including current donors, capable of donating at least $5,000 annually, with a focus on cultivating five- and six-figure gifts.
B. Create, update and implement individualized stewardship plans that result in strengthened relationships, increased involvement, and growing financial support from these prospects over time, including a strategy for soliciting planned gifts.
C. Plan and execute strategies locally, nationally and internationally to steward existing relationships and to build the pipeline of new prospects in other markets, specifically within the Southwestern and West Coast Regions of the United States.
D. Produce monthly reports that accurately reflect caseload activity and performance as measured against fundraising goals and the annual budget.
E. Serve as a key member of the organization’s annual fundraising team to grow the pipeline of new prospects, specifically within the Southwestern and West Coast regions of the United States.
F. Assist in developing the organization’s annual budget and manage development budget/invoices.
G. Other duties as assigned.
IV. Required Experience and Skills
A. Bachelor’s degree.
B. CFRE preferred but not required.
C. Minimum of five (5-7) years of full-time, direct experience in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding five- and six-figure gifts from individuals and private foundations.
D. Experience in planned giving.
E. Demonstrated knowledge of the West Coast region’s philanthropic networks and key stakeholders.
F. Able to organize and support small events to cultivate major and planned giving prospects.

What we look for. Education: Associates Degree in Communications, Development, Psychology, Education or similar field is required. Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in project coordination or leadership development is required. *Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted for qualification requirements . Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience using Microsoft office Suite (Outlook, Word, PPT, and Excel) is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Ability to interface and collaboratively engage with diverse groups of cross-functional department employees, physician members, vendors, and other external parties is required. Ability to multitask across several projects and initiatives and demonstrate capability of following through to completion is required. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong working relationships both internal and external to the organization is preferred. Demonstrated ability to provide respectful and helpful customer or member services is preferred. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are preferred. Demonstrated interest in database administration and drawing conclusions from data-driven analysis is preferred. Travel Requirements: Minimal travel required – approximately 5%. Ability to legally travel outside of the United States, particularly but not limited to Canada .
