Job Summary:

Responsibilities

We're seeking a Swim Instructor to join our team! As our new Swim Instructor you will:

• Teach various levels and age groups in accordance with the sites instructional guidelines

• Plan lessons, select appropriate drills, and evaluate the students progress

• Present proper demonstrations and explain skills, analyze and correct performance, minimize fear, and use appropriate teaching devices

• Maintain a safe and positive teaching environment

• Attend all in-service trainings

• Maintain accurate records and prepare course completion certificates

• Perform all swimming strokes and skills taught in all levels

• Effectively communicate each students progress either to the student directly, or to the students parents where appropriate

• Project and promote a professional image

• Explain and enforce facility regulations, policies, and procedures to patrons

• Other tasks as assigned

The Ideal Candidate will have:

• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications or the ability to obtain the certification at the time of hire

• Current Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification or the ability to obtain the certification at the time of hire

• Prior experience lifeguarding or teaching swim lessons highly preferred

Per pay transparency requirements, the compensation for this position ranges from $15.00/unit to $70.00/unit in addition to admin rates as required by local law. Minimum rates may vary based on local wage laws. Pay is dependent on factors including site location, specialty, certifications, duration of class, and work experience as well as other business needs. Critical to your success as an instructor, the Y's continued reputation as a provider of highest quality swim instruction, is the relationship that you build with your students and their parents. This will be accomplished through positive and regular communications with students and parents relative to progress, concerns, questions and suggestions, while maintaining a safe and friendly aquatic learning environment. Ideal candidates will be at least 15 years old, and have the ability to work 2+ days per week. Variety of shifts available.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must have knowledge of and ability to demonstrate and teach proper swim strokes and skills. Previous teacher experience not required.
2. Excellent organizational and communication skills to effectively interact with swimmers, parents and staff.
3. Patience, problem-solving ability, creativity and the ability to work in a noisy environment.

• Instructs swimming lessons and Aquatics events
• Responds to member questions, comments, and concerns
• Provides a safe, clean and organized pool area
• Promotes and sells all Aquatics programs and services

• Working towards a High School Diploma or GED
• CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard Certifications (within 60 days of hire)
• Complete and pass all Life Time courses when hired
• Ability to work in a stationery position and move about the club for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to communicate and exchange information with guests who have inquiries about Life Time products and services
• Ability to swim 25 yards/meters without stopping
• Ability to routinely raise to lift more than 20 lbs

• Under the direct supervision of a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS/RTC) provides basic recreation therapy activity services to patients.
• Collaborates with all members of the staff to enhance the transdisciplinary rehabilitation model across the continuum.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

• Minimum: Possesses life guarding certification or is eligible to attend and complete lifeguard training within two weeks of hire date and provides certification document within two weeks of hire date. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
• Preferred: Current CA driver's license preferred.

• Preferred: Experience leading fitness classes.

Job Description

Swim Instructor

General Function:

To ensure the safety of all children enrolled in a swimming lesson receive quality instruction in a fun and safe environment.

Know-How:

A swim instructor must possess and keep current the following certifications at all times: Lifeguarding, or YASA , Adult/Child/Infant CPR (Professional Rescue or Healthcare Provider), First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and AED. Will be expected to get Fundamentals of Teaching Swim Lessons, Youth and Adult Swim Lessons and/or Parent Child and Preschool Swim Lessons Certifications.

Job Segments:

1. Arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of your lessons.
2. Start and end class on time.
3. Follow a lesson plan for each class. Incorporate individualized games and activities and have all necessary equipment prepared.
4. Take attendance at every class.
5. Complete a Progress report for each child, as well as a certificate to be handed out at the last lesson.
6. Encourage and challenge them in a friendly and loving way.
7. Find and secure your own substitute when needed, fill out sub book, and turn into your supervisor for approval.
8. Have fun! Playing games is part of the lesson.
9. Demonstrate Responsibility, Respect, Caring & Honesty towards members, guests, co-workers, and supervisor at all times.

12. Ensure storage room is kept clean and equipment is stored properly
13. Realize the children and parents depend on their instructor to be present for all lessons of the session. Therefore, absences must be avoided at all cost. Notify parents of any ensconces in advance when possible.
14. Read and understand evaluation criteria (attached and posted in guard office).
15. Perform any unique duties requested, as deemed appropriate, by your supervisor.
