The Viner ICU is a 30-bed intensive care unit. The ICU specializes in the care of adult, acutely ill patients in an academic setting. The ICU offers state of the art care with innovative technology and lifesaving interventions. The highly specialized multidisciplinary team is committed to providing expert care to the sickest of the sick in the region. Driven by quality and patient centered care the team delivers advanced critical care for patients needing; ECMO, cardiac surgery, interventional pulmonary care, and other lifesaving treatments. Over the last few years, the ICU received, "The Family Centered Care Innovation Award" and the "2022 ICU Hero's Award" from the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM).
Short Description
Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assists with patients' activities of daily living and plan of care. Communicates with and supports healthcare team, patients and/or patient's family or significant other(s). Maintains and demonstrates high standards of professional ethics.

1. Supports the activities of daily living to include bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, and assisting with mobility and transport. Demonstrates standard precautions including the care of patients in isolation and safe patient practice. 2. Performs technical duties as directed by RN, such as phlebotomy, vital signs, point of care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care specific to population served and documents appropriately. 3. Identifies and communicates changes in patient's status to RN and responds appropriately. Demonstrates standard precautions including the care of patients in isolation and safe patient practice. 4. Reinforces education of patient and family/responsible party regarding individual care needs and safety issues. 5. Participates in Cooper patient satisfaction initiatives and goals. Participates in the performance improvement activities. Assists in orientation of new hires. 6. Completes annual unit-specific competencies by specified due date. 7. Attends Staff Meetings when available for documents review of staff meeting minutes. 8. Assists in admission, transfers and discharges of patients to and from the unit.

What We Do
Our subspecialty ICU team manages both cardiac and neurocritical care patients across two campuses:
Mainland Campus (Pomona, NJ) - Home to our Heart & Vascular Institute, with ECMO, cardiac surgery, advanced heart failure care, and a robust Impella program
Atlantic City Campus - Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center, featuring our neuroscience ICU and partnership with the Global Neurosciences Institute (GNI)
We Provide:
Comprehensive ECMO support (VA, VV, VPA)
Advanced mechanical circulatory devices: Impella CP, 5.5, RP Flex, and Protek Duo RVAD
Neurocritical care for stroke, aneurysms, status epilepticus, and neurosurgical ICU cases
A multidisciplinary ICU culture grounded in protocols, escalation discipline, and bedside leadership
Dedicated support for innovation, clinical trials, and research in shock and neurocritical care
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality critical care for complex cardiac and neurological patients
Manage advanced support devices like ECMO and Impella, and treat acute neuro emergencies
Collaborate with cardiology, neurosurgery, and ICU teams across both campuses
Participate in quality improvement and hospital committee initiatives
Stay current with critical care advancements through ongoing education

Teach and mentor residents, fellows, and medical students
Contribute to peer review and uphold clinical standards

We're hiring for both cardiac and neurocritical care intensivists. The ideal candidate will:
Be BC/BE in Critical Care (Anesthesia, Pulm/CCM, or IM-CCM)
Have 1-2 years of post-training experience (exceptional final-year fellows considered)
Have experience (or interest in training) with:
PA catheter placement and interpretation
TVP insertion
Management of ICP and neuroemergencies
