As an Electronics Engineering Technician Apprentice at IBM, you will work in any one of the following:
* Power Card Lab Tech
You will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and experience using the latest tools and technologies to support IBM processors, storage or other semiconductor hardware.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will work closely with experienced engineers, technicians and other mentors in a laboratory or test floor environment to create and execute test or physical characterization plans that assess the electrical performance and characteristics against design and functional requirements.
Where applicable, you will be taught principles of system analysis, defect identification and repair and/or the basics of a variety of lab safety procedures relevant to the physical preparation of samples for chemical, optical, or electrical characterization. To that end, you will be trained in the use of state-of-the-art tools to test, manipulate and inspect product chips, and work with our engineers to interpret and consolidate the obtained data.

IBM Apprenticeship Program is an official registered apprenticeship recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL). Every graduate of a Registered Apprenticeship program receives a nationally-recognized credential from the DOL.
During the apprenticeship duration, you will be required to complete specific learning hours and on the job training that has been outlined to ensure you are developing the skills and competencies essential to the role. You will be able to learn and grow at your own pace, but we expect most apprentices will complete their learning within 12 months. Once you graduate and receive your certificate from our apprentice program, you will be eligible to apply to available full-time roles at IBM.

**Your role and responsibilities**
As an Infrastructure Lab Technician Apprentice at IBM, you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and experience
using the latest tools and technologies to support IBM processors, storage or other semiconductor hardware.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will work closely with experienced engineers, technicians and other mentors in a production
and/or development hardware raised floor environment to maintain all specific hardware related to the IBM Infrastructure Group.
Where applicable, you will be taught all day-to-day activities/responsibilities of a hardware raised floor environment on multiple
different Infrastructure specific raised floors. This work will be physical hands on in nature with some lifting and physical dexterity
requirements. You will also learn and be responsible for a variety of lab safety procedures relevant to the specific raised floor
environment, as well as learning and utilizing the specific hardware life cycle workload applications. To that end, you will be trained
and expected to certify via testing in all specific responsibilities. Specific to the hardware life cycle, you will be expected to rack,
stack, cable (power and network), new hardware, as well as un-rack and pack old hardware and cabling.

**Your role and responsibilities**
The Lab Technician performs established tests or well-defined procedures, organizes data, and knows what degree of care and accuracy is required. Utilizes computer programs to reduce data and observations. Records and organizes technical data and assists in its evaluation. Receives generalized instructions from engineers, scientists, or specialists. Works from written procedures, schematics, engineering drawings, sketches, or oral instructions. Operates and adjusts tools and equipment used in job assignment. Recognizes proper and improper operation of basic equipment and takes corrective action. Has specialized knowledge of engineering disciplines or physical sciences such as: electronics, logic, mechanics, hydraulics, plastics, metallurgy, ceramics and materials, design, layout, chemistry, physics, or mathematics. Knowledge would normally be obtained through formal training such as vocational training program, military technical schools, Associate degree programs, or other education programs.
Thermal Lab Technician role and responsibilities:
* Performs thermal read outs of existing recipes and configurations
* Analyzes data generated at the various steps of a thermal readout and determine if the data is valid and accurate
* Creates and install thermocouples where required
* Builds the thermal test vehicles to be measured in the thermal read out
* Maintains and updates the Test Vehicle Assembly Processes documentation
* Keeps the Thermal Lab in a clean and orderly condition
Creates spreadsheets or other documents, if needed, that may help them do the above

**Preferred technical and professional experience**
* Hands-on hardware experience preferred with good knowledge and understanding of basic electrical technology
* Has experience soldering
* Can operate a multimeter
* General knowledge of OHMS Law: Resistance, Voltage, and Current
* Power formulas, Series and Parallel circuit concepts, as well as resistance and capacitance
* Electrical safety- AC/DC basics and lockout tagout
* Basic plumbing concepts to support water cooling solutions
* Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred
* Ability to work collaboratively with good communication skills and teamwork
* Effectively conveys ideas and information, both verbally and in writing
