Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: The Engineering Designer provides conceptual and flow designs, detail designs

and drafting, standardization and quality improvement strategies for the department. Equally important the

Engineering Designer must serve as a critical interface with manufacturing for quality fabrication and

installation of designed systems, helping to reduce the overall cost of operations.

 SITUATION:

OA Newton designs and produces material handling systems using mechanical or pneumatic conveying

for movement of bulk material such as PVC, wood flour, grain, and carbon black, serving the building

products, friction products, and agri-business industries.

 JOB DUTIES:

1) Revise, or create ACAD / Solidworks drawings per verbal or written direction from supervisor with

efficiency and accuracy.

2) Maintain engineering drawing log.

3) Proper filing and archiving of engineering project manuals.

4) Managing drawings for job order releases, transmittals, meetings.

5) Compilation and distribution of transmittal packages.

6) Revise, or create standard M2M BOM’s.

7) Revise, or create job order M2M BOM’s.

8) Compilation and distribution of job order packets to production office.

9) Compilation and distribution of customer project manuals.

10) Perform volumetric design calculations for capacities.

11) Perform speed calculations for blowers, fans and airlocks

12) Perform air filtration calculations for bin vents, filter receivers, dust collectors.

13) Assist with project site documentation visits.

 EXPECTATIONS:

1. Participate in ongoing product development, increasing standardization, and development of

innovative designs and practices at the direction of the Engineering Manager.

2. Act as a leader in engineering quality and cost reduction through quality improvement, design for

manufacturing and assembly, and design for transport.

3. Continually improve effectiveness using the tools at OA Newton: the Made2Manage ERP system

in order to specify Bills of Material (BOM), Spare Parts Lists (SPL), Job Order Releases for

purchasing and fabrication, Routings, and other key parameters including report generation;

AutoCAD / Solidworks for development of System Flow Diagrams, Stack-ups, and Detail

Drawings; and MS Project, to provide Gannt charts and schedule work on large system designs.

4. Continually develop standards and design modules that promote repeatability in fabrication and

provide consistent field results. This involves creation and maintenance of CAD drawing libraries

and BOMs and working with Purchasing to value-engineer products for cost reduction.

5. Routinely visit customer locations for field verifications. This includes pre-project work such as

measurements, during installation and start-up, and post-project work for customer service and

warranty issues.

6. Deliver designs on projects in harmony with the assigned Project Manager according to schedule,

and allocating and requesting resources as necessary.

The Rotating Machinery Mechanical Design Engineer is key in coordinating the resources and activities required to support new designs, design reviews, detailed analysis, and work instructions to produce top of the line quality

**Job Description**
**Roles and Responsibilities**
+ Own design activities through life of development programs (from concept through detail design to production release).
+ Develop CAD 3D models and associated drawings and other documentation.
+ Design high speed rotating assemblies including shafts, housings, bearing cooling flow paths, seals, etc.
+ Support high speed bearing selection and design.
+ Support strategic new business opportunities and IR&D efforts including rapid iterations to at least a preliminary machine cross section
+ Support structural analysis team in generating deliverables such as rotor dynamics analysis and containment analysis.
+ Work closely with the Systems Engineer, performance engineers, aerodynamicists, structural engineers, and program team to ensure designs meet technical and program requirements.
+ Develop and maintain standard engineering methods and tools used to develop new designs.
+ Manage the development and implementation of new designs through design analysis, risk mitigation, review of safety factors & stack-ups, reliability tools, schedules, and design reviews.
+ Verify designs have adequate Safety Factors prior to releasing to production. Work with customer/ redesign if required to obtain producible designs.
+ Collaborate closely with customers to ensure product performance and integration into end platform.
+ Review and approve documentation for transition from prototype to production.
+ Provide engineering support to trouble shoot and diagnose non-performing product.
+ When assigned, oversee the failure analysis process providing support and final review of all reports.
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
+ **Must have a minimum 5 years** **experience in the mechanical layout and design of high-speed turbomachinery (speed greater than 30,000 RPM) for aerospace applications including axial fans, centrifugal blowers, centrifugal and/or mixed flow compressors, and radial inflow and axial turbines. Plus experience with designing internal machine gas paths and seals for motor and bearing cooling**
+ Willingness to travel up to 10%
**Desired Characteristics**
+ Minimum 1 year of CAD experience (preferably in SolidWorks and/or NX)
+ Experience with PDM Vault and / or Teamcenter
+ Experience with Engineering Drawings utilizing GD&T

Job Overview:

We are looking for a hands-on Design Engineer with a strong background in hydraulic and mechanical systems to lead all engineering efforts for our growing pump manufacturing operation. In a small, fast-paced environment, you will be responsible for the full design lifecycle, from concept through production, as well as supporting troubleshooting, testing, and product improvement initiatives. This is a high-impact, autonomous role reporting directly to the General Manager.

Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and improve hydraulic and mechanical pump systems and components
Produce and manage engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation
Lead prototype builds and coordinate with manufacturing on assembly processes
Actively participate in hands-on troubleshooting, testing, and product validation
Support customer-specific customizations and respond to technical inquiries
Maintain compliance with relevant engineering standards and specifications
Continuously identify opportunities to improve product performance and manufacturability
Collaborate closely with production, sales and marketing teams

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fluid Dynamics, or a related field
3-7 years of relevant experience in pump design, hydraulics, or fluid systems
Strong knowledge of pump systems, hydraulics, mechanical design
Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor)
Comfortable working in a small-team environment and taking ownership of engineering functions
Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, solution-oriented mindset
Enjoys hands-on work-must be enthusiastic about assembling, testing, and troubleshooting pumps
