Major Responsibilities:
- Operates x-ray equipment to produce radiographs of designated portions of the body as ordered by a physician
- Accountable for the performance and documentation of all diagnostic procedures utilizing proper technical parameters to produce quality studies.
- Knowledgeable in the safe use, maneuverability and operation of all general radiography, portable and fluoro equipment (if applicable to home site)
- Proficient in the performance of general diagnostic procedures. If applicable to home site, is also proficient in general fluoroscopy procedures, including GI and Pain procedures.
- Adheres to infection prevention, isolation and sterile techniques as it applies in patient handling and delivery of care
- Adheres to ALARA principles in performance of exams to reduce exposure to self, the patient and others
- Utilizes proper patient identification to ensure the correct exam is performing on the correct patient at the correct time.
- Obtains and records pertinent patient history, explains the procedure to patient in a manner to ensure understanding, ensures patient comfort during performance of exam.
- Adherence to department standards of radiographic quality.
- Reviews radiographs to ensure optimum quality.
- Reports environmental/equipment problems to appropriate resource personnel.
- Performs required computer function for RIS/HIS systems.
- Labels all radiographs appropriately following departments established criteria and standards.
- Consistently maintains an attitude of professionalism, teamwork and collaboration with co-workers, physicians and internal customers/departments.
- Consistently provides positive interactions and a customer first approach with patients and their families/caregivers and visitors.
- Participates in assessment of own learning needs and actively seeks opportunity for increased competency and growth
- Attends in-services to ensure knowledge of current departmental and technical procedures.
- Attends CPR classes to maintain re-certification.
- Maintains appropriate state license and national board certification.
- Maintenance of supplies needed to ensure adequate level needed for quality patient care.
- Ensures cleanliness of equipment and work area.
- Maintains inventory of supplies in work area. Identifies supplies and equipment needs for procedure, restocks work area as necessary.
- Uses Universal Precautions in daily performance of procedures.
Education/Experience Required:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
- IEMA Accreditation in Radiologic Technology
- ARRT (RT) Certification or Certificate Eligible. For new graduates, ARRT must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Good communication skills
- Understanding of RIS & PACS
- Ability to work under stressful situations
- Ability to handle patient information in a confidential manner
- Ability to adapt to fluctuations in patient volumes to meet patient care and department needs
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to work weekends and holidays in order to accommodate patient care needs.
- Ability to work rotating shift any day of the week.
- Ability to take call and arrive on site within one hour
- May be exposed to radiation during procedures.
- May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time or be required to lift and move patients
- May be exposed to hazardous materials, infectious disease and required to participate in annual emergency drills.
- Required to maintain current CPR certification.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Description Summary/Objective As a Medical Technologist Regional Lead, all the duties of a Medical Technologist are performed in addition to assisting in the daily efficient operation of the lab. This is to include performing duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements and apply theoretical concepts of laboratory medicine using independent judgement to ensure timely and accurate results. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Performs accurate laboratory testing as ordered by the clinician producing results in a timely manner. Assists Manager in the observance and documentation of quality assurance monitors to produce timely reports meeting regulatory requirements. Performs and understands quality control programs including evaluation of values, documentation of errors and corrective action. Assists Manager with monthly quality control review and submission to vendor for peer group analysis. Performs and records scheduled equipment maintenance, troubleshooting of equipment problems and provides technical support to laboratory staff and clinicians. Resolves problems as they arise and keeps Manager informed of such situations. Performs all routine and complex tests as ordered by the clinician. Recognizes and follows critical results procedure. Reviews all worksheet documentation monthly. Proficient operation of the LIS and other computer related programs. Actively participates in all upgrades. Assists Manager in developing and updating procedure manuals. Performs proficiency testing per scheduled rotation. Assists Manager in submitting results accurately and timely. Provides appropriate documentation of corrective action for results outside of acceptable limits. Ensures there is proper coverage of MLTs and MTs in all the regional locations Documents any corrective action needed and works with the Laboratory Manager to deliver the information Creates the schedule for the MLTs and MTs in all the regional locations Performs any other miscellaneous duties as assigned Competencies Competencies are observable behaviors that encompass the knowledge, skills, and personal characteristics that distinguish levels of performance in the work environment. This will be performed annually by the Laboratory Manager and documentation maintained in employee notebook. Work Environment & Physical Demands Lifting – Must be able to lift above shoulder height up to 10 lbs. as needed. In addition, must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. on a daily basis, multiple times a day replacing instrumentation reagents. For items weighing more than 30 lbs., a dolly/cart must be utilized Pushing/Pulling – Must be able to push/pull up to 30 lbs. on a daily basis. For items weighing more than 30 lbs., a dolly/cart must be utilized Carry weight, lift – Must be able to carry reagents to instrumentation weighing up to 30 lbs. on a daily basis. For items weighing more than 30 lbs., a dolly/cart must be utilized Bending/Twisting/Stooping – Must be able to bend/twist/stoop to replace reagents, remove instrumentation waste, file racks of specimens, and in storing of supplies Sitting/Standing – Must be able to constantly stand and walk for several hours in duration. Sitting is appropriate based on workload volume and particular testing being performed (example – microscopic work) Smells – Ability to tolerate strong odors when disposing of specimens or reagents Dexterity – Must be able to perform a large amount of repetitive hand movements by utilizing computers and opening/closing specimen containers Travel Based on staffing needs, staff may be required to commute to other regional laboratories to provide laboratory coverage which may also require changing work hours, additional shifts and/or weekends. Requirements Required Education and Experience Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related Science degree along with the successful completion of an approved formal training program in Medical Technology. Preferred Education And Experience Experience in a clinical laboratory setting involving the analysis of blood, tissue and body fluids utilizing automated equipment and specialized instrumentation while performing numerous complicated tests simultaneously and accurately interpreting the results. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Active State of Florida license as a Medical Technologist with licensure in the following specialties: Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Microbiology, Molecular Pathology. Registry with either ASCP or AAB preferred.
