Safety Manager I -Cvil SUMMARY Mortenson is currently seeking a passionate Safety Manager for our Civil Operating Group who can interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Safety Manager will provide management, leadership, direction, and support within Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety program for multiple project teams and construction sites. The Safety Manager may also have supervisory responsibility to one or more safety professionals. RESPONSIBILITIES Provide safety oversight, leadership, and direction in the implementation of the Zero Injury Safety program across multiple project sites Lead project management teams in developing site-specific electrical safety programs and activities Identify training needs and conduct safety orientation and electrical training programs, including train-the-trainer sessions Review safety submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings with subcontractors Provide professional direction and mentorship to Safety, Senior Safety Engineers, and Coordinators Oversee documentation, tracking, and analysis of all Safety, Injury, and Hazard statistics, trend analyses, and OSHA reports Conduct work area safety audits Conduct or assist with major incident analysis Monitor and review subcontractor activities for safety concerns Manage Return to Work and Modified Duty program Interface with Risk Management department Review project work plans to ensure safety is adequately incorporated Provide resources for electrical safety-related information Evaluate and offer solutions for industrial hygiene concerns Maintain operational knowledge of construction safety, OSHA, ANSI, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures Serve as a resource for electrical safety issues or concerns for all project team members/operating group management Mentor, manage, and conduct timely performance evaluations of safety engineers Support Operating Group Safety Director and Safety Leadership Team in achieving and maintaining operating group safety performance metrics Interface with client safety personnel, union representatives, industry groups, etc. Accompany safety, health, insurance, and OSHA personnel on work-site tours Ensure maintenance and inspection of safety equipment and protective wear Contribute to the annual review process of operating group safety engineers as requested QUALIFICATIONS Minimum six years of construction safety experience Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification preferred Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks Proficient in Microsoft Office and pertinent safety-related software programs Positive and professional attitude with strong customer service skills Ability to interpret and communicate company policies to team members and outside parties Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills Effective public speaking and presentation skills Willingness to travel Current driver’s license Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, or related field OR high school diploma, CHST Certification, OSHA 500, and a minimum of 10 years of continuous construction experience leading crews and planning work, including at least six years as a dedicated construction safety professional responsible for: Managing project safety programs Conducting and reviewing hazard analyses and developing controls Conducting safety training Planning work activities Equivalent experience in a relevant field A few benefits offered include: (for Non-Craft & Non-Union Craft working 25+ hours / week) Medical and prescription drug plans that includes no additional cost vision coverage Dental plan 401k retirement plan with a generous Mortenson match Paid time off, holidays, and other paid leaves Employer paid Life, AD&D, and disability insurance No-Cost mental health tool and concierge with extensive work-life resources Tuition reimbursement Adoption Assistance Gym Membership Discount Program The base pay range for this role is $97,600 - $146,400. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform cost control and financial management:
- Work with Preconstruction on project estimate and schedule
- Coordinate scopes of work
- Review and compile pay applications, change requests, and other project financial documentation
- Partner with the Project Manager or Construction Executive:
- Contract administration and management
- Award subcontracts
- Provide direction to the project team for safe and timely project completion:
- Act as liaison for project engineers, mentor, and coach others
- Provide job assignments and lead career development
- Direct responsibilities and guide Field Engineer(s) and Project Engineer(s)
- Lead subcontractors and suppliers for the project:
- Supervise budget and make recommendations for subcontractors and trade partners
- Lead project buyout with subcontractors and trade partners
- Facilitate and lead meetings between subcontractors related to project coordination
- Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
- Perform on-site Project Manager duties on small-scope projects
- Implement a quality plan that ensures the customers specified performance criteria in design and construction
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent experience
- Minimum six years of related previous experience
- Demonstrated ability to assist with all responsibilities for complex projects
- Detail orientation sufficient to organize and lead multiple project tasks
- Possess a basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
- Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level

The Project Manager will provide overall leadership direction to a project; including the management of project quality, timeliness, and safety, as well as mentoring the project team. Develop and enhance customer relationships by providing excellent service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the overall financial health of projects
- Support and potentially lead EPC contract negotiations with customers, including assembly of technical exhibits, the scope of work, and project schedules to align with contract requirements.
- Lead vendor procurement and bid/award phase for all major subs and suppliers, including RFP creation, vendor solicitation, technical scoping, risk analysis, budget alignment, and contract negotiations.
- Develop and maintain project financial projections and equipment projections.
- Determine and allocate project estimates into the financial system.
- Determine cost codes, approve invoices, and make necessary budget management decisions.
- Provide financial and billing information to Accounting for timely payment.
- Create monthly owner billings.
- Manage subcontracts and suppliers for the project
- Oversee budget for and make selections of trade partners and suppliers.
- Handle billings and contract management, including contract buyouts.
- Manage Assistant Project Manager(s) and Project Engineer(s)
- Provide job assignments and manage career development.
- Approve time cards for on-site team members.
- Provide ongoing feedback on work performance.
- Function as the main point of contact with the owner and on-site representative
- Assist with the review of the owner agreement.
- Resolve site concerns for the owner or representative.
- Provide frequent interactions and service to build positive relationships and future work opportunities.
- Manage change orders
- Determine when to submit to the owner or on-site representatives.
- Obtain the customer/architects approval.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum six years of related previous experience.
- Proven ability to assist with all responsibilities for complex projects.
- Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
- Possess a basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
- Preference for candidates with experience in one or more of the following: commercial construction, renewable energy project development, EPC contracting, or emerging technologies.
