**What you will do:**
The Medical Assistant is responsible to perform the duties of the position in support of the nurses and physicians in providing quality medical care.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Escorts patient to exam room, takes appropriate vital signs and documents all necessary health information into the electronic medical record.
+ Responds to patients concerns appropriately.
+ Completes referrals and obtains pre-authorizations for diagnostic testing.
+ Follows proper protocol for collection and delivery of specimens.
+ Participates in all required meetings and practice huddles.
+ Completes incoming patient forms and ensures forms are scanned into the electronic medical record if applicable.
+ Uses Universal Precautions with all encounters. Knows and follows procedure for handling occurrences involving exposure to blood or other body fluid.
+ Documents all exposure incidents per St Peter's Health Partners Medical Associates policy.
+ Notifies physician regarding patients in need of physician intervention.
+ Ensures that patient exam rooms are stocked and cleaned at all times.
+ Follows office protocol to ensure adequate supplies are ordered and stocked.
+ Performs office testing with appropriate training and within scope of practice.
+ Handles medical waste appropriately.
+ Provides educational materials to patients.
+ Provides patients with electronic copy of medical record.
+ If applicable perform front-end functions to insure achievement of established revenue cycle metrics, consistent with excellence standards and practice workflows:
+ Scheduling and registration
+ Check-in
+ Check-out
+ Charge entry/claims
+ End of day processes
+ General duties including but not limited to:
+ Document processing
+ Scanning
+ Inbox monitoring
+ Complies with Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) care delivery model.
+ Performs all mandatory training.
+ Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA regulations.
+ Works cooperatively with all team members to ensure quality patient care at all times.
+ Communicates respectfully and effectively with providers, clinical staff, colleagues, managers and others.
+ Adheres to St Peter's Health Partners Medical Associates Code of Conduct in performance of all job duties.
+ Obtains and maintains medical assistant certification according to MA certification policy.
+ Cross covers other areas as needed
**What you will need:**
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Graduate of a Medical Assistant Training Program
+ Holds National Medical Assistant Certification: CMA, CCMA, RMA
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ High School Diploma or equivalency
+ At least 10 months' work and/or clinical training experience in the healthcare field
+ Proficient in obtaining manual vital signs
+ Experience using an electronic health record system
+ Commitment to confidentiality and respect
+ Ability to obtain and record patient data including but not limited to: prior health history, family history, allergies, current medications, current complaints, health screening questionnaires
+ Knowledge of basic anatomy and medical terminology
+ Experience assisting physicians, nurses, or other healthcare providers in performing clinical tasks and procedures
+ Ability to provide patients with information related to their health and wellness
**Pay Range** : $19.00 - $27.85
Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.

Use of patient care transport equipment such as, but not limited to, wheelchairs, Hoyer lift, Hover matt, Sit to Stand, Slide sheets, and stretchers. Operates pneumatic tube system. Use of dietary meal ordering system. Use of unit equipment - fax, phone, communication system and maintenance equipment. Monitor unit supplies to ensure availability.Data:Obtains and records accurate vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure and report abnormal findings to RN (include RN Name in Documentation). Obtains and records accurate height and weight on admission, discharge and periodically as ordered.Places cardiac and respiratory monitoring leads as directed.Performs 12-lead EKG and obtains rhythm strips as directed.Performs bedside glucose monitoring in accordance with written policy and procedure and records and reports results.Applies pulse oximeter and monitors, records andDocuments data in accordance with departmental policy and procedure.Reports observations to RN in a timely manner and follow escalation policy if warranted. Performs venipuncture (ED) to obtain blood specimens for laboratory analysis where applicable. Collects urine, stool and sputum specimens for analysis and culture as directed by RN. Customer Service:Demonstrates tact, diplomacy and sensitivity when interacting with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.Respects patient privacy, maintains confidentiality and displays non-judgmental behavior.Recognizes potential patient/family relations problems and communicates them to the appropriate personnel.Participates in and utilizes appropriate intra and interdepartmental communication systems.Verbal communication is clear, concise, and relevant.Maintains open lines of communication with peers and other members of the health care team.Communicates patient/family needs to appropriate staff. And escalate if needed to the next level of leadership, including nursing supervisor. Clerical Coverage:Answer phones with proper phone etiquette and communicate effectively with providers, families, and colleagues.Maintain all medical records on the unit.Receive non-controlled medications from the pharmacy, and secure in designated area. This includes frequently monitoring the pneumatic tube system for medication deliveries, retrieving those medications, and depositing them in the designated area or in the case of refrigerated medications delivering to the patient's nurse. Coordinate all patient movement on and off the unit in collaboration with RN. Review and process Advanced Directive paperwork as indicated.Ownership:PCT must adhere to dress code guidelines and wear appropriate color scrubs.Accepts constructive feedback from co-workers and supervisor and responds by changing behavior or performance if appropriate.Supports and accepts hospital policies, decisions, and changes.Willingly participates in unit activities/committees/staff meetings.Read department communication and updates on a timely basis.Completes all mandatory hospital and unit-based competencies/in-services within required time frames. HHA/PCA Requirements & Key Responsibilities:
- New York State HHA or PCA Certificate
- Limited Availability for sponsored certification courses in Long Island, West Chester & Staten Island
- Ability to meet New York state credentialing requirement guidelines for work as an HHA or PCA in NY
- Bilingual a PLUS
- Assist clients with personal care activities, including bathing, grooming & dressing
- Preparation of meals according to dietary restrictions and preferences
- Companionship and Emotional support
- Assist with daily living activities
- Interest in working with clients from diverse backgrounds and disabilities
