Overview
Reporting to the Director of Clinical Quality Systems, and with a dotted line to the AD of GLP and GCLP QA, the Manager of GLP & GCLP Quality Assurance (CQA) serves as a QA representative on the development team assuring quality and regulatory compliance related to GLP and other related activities performed by Insmed. The incumbent will provide support and promote collaboration internally and externally to ensure all systems, processes and their outcomes align with applicable international and national standards, regulations, and guidelines. This is a remote position.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
  • Give to and support the maintenance of a risk-based and scientific-based quality system to support GLP.
  • Assist with the development, design, and implementation of a strategic audit plan, ensuring that the activities are conducted and reported according to SOPs and regulations.
  • Perform audits of contract research organizations, contract testing laboratories, and internal systems/processes.
  • Support the evaluation and acceptability of service providers for potential use.
  • Support cross functional working groups to identify and mitigate GLP quality and compliance issues.
  • Champion compliance with US FDA 21 CFR Part 58 Good Laboratory Practice for Nonclinical Laboratory Studies, OECD Principles of Good Laboratory Practice, MHLW (Japan), and the regulations of other countries that are signatories of the OECD Mutual Acceptance of Data Agreement.
  • Handle quality documentation in Veeva QMS and Vault.
  • Provide Quality support during regulatory agency inspections.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum BS degree in Biology or Chemistry or related life sciences field required with minimum 3-5 years of experience.
  • An understanding of regulations, development processes and regulatory inspection procedures is required. Experience working with regulators and internal staff to help prepare for inspections preferred.
  • GLP audit experience is required including ability to conduct external audits of CROs and supporting laboratories with responsibility for writing audit reports and reviewing and tracking CAPAs.
  • Must demonstrate practical working knowledge of GLP regulations.
  • Broad knowledge of risk-based quality systems approaches.
  • Must be able to foster a collaborative/partnership environment, adapt to other personalities in a respectful manner that is conducive to goal achievement and team building while maintaining quality and compliance.
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy, and conciseness.

Salary Range
$111,000 - $156,133 a year

**Your Challenge:**
+ Design and implement quality control software inspection programs including, but not limited to: Inspection plans, measurement methods and data recording forms/records; Quality Control systems, methods, and procedures; Gage Lab calibration and Gage Control oversight; Supplier inspection verification and evaluation of delivered product; New product inspection support and data analysis.
+ Provide technical support, inspection equipment and training to inspectors, as needed.

+ Review, evaluate, and respond to external customer and/or supplier correspondence; provide assistance to Suppliers, as required, with drawing interpretation and inspection techniques that meet EMD's expectations.
+ Participate in the preparation and maintenance of quality control procedures and related department and divisional procedures.
**What You Bring:**
+ Bachelor's Degree required in Engineering.
+ 2-6 years of experience in a QC Engineering position in General Industry.
+ Experience with programming inspection systems, like CMMs, and CAD software like AutoCAD or Solid Edge.
+ Application development using VB, MS Access, Python, C++ or other programming language.
+ General knowledge of dimensional inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, functional gaging, etc.
+ Trained/Certified in PCDMIS and/or PolyWorks software programming is desired.
+ Oral and written communication skills.
+ Detail oriented with the ability to learn on the fly.
+ Comprehensive understanding of Windows 10 and MS Office.
+ Knowledge of ERP systems.
+ Ability to work in a team environment is essential.
+ Must be sole US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance.

The Quality Control (QC) Supervisor leads a team of QC Analysts in the timely and compliant testing of raw materials, in-process samples, intermediates, final products, and stability samples. This role ensures that the QC Laboratory effectively supports manufacturing operations and commercial product release requirements, while maintaining compliance with ISO 13485:2016 and applicable sections of 21 CFR Part 820 (GMP). The QC Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the QC Laboratory in a constant state of audit readiness by ensuring adherence to all relevant regulatory, quality, and safety standards. Additionally, the QC Supervisor serves as a key QC representative for R&D initiatives and New Product Introductions (NPIs).

Essential Functions: 

  • Provide direct leadership, guidance, and mentorship to QC team members, including hands-on training and performance support.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the QC team.
  • Prioritize testing activities to align with production schedules and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Manage laboratory inventory to prevent testing delays; collaborate with Procurement for sourcing and ERP system updates. Escalate any potential inventory risks that may impact turnaround time (TAT).
  • Lead QC equipment qualification, calibration, and maintenance activities in collaboration with the Facilities Department. Act as primary approver for QC equipment and provide backup support for Analytical R&D (AR&D) equipment.
  • Escalate to management when capital expenditures (CAPEX) are required to implement safety, efficiency, or compliance-related solutions within the QC laboratory.
  • Review and approve QC analytical data in both electronic systems and hardcopy formats, ensuring compliance with ISO 13485:2016, 21 CFR Part 820, and 21 CFR Part 11 data integrity requirements.
  • Monitor and trend Out-of-Specification (OOS) results, investigating root causes to support continuous improvement across QC, Production, and QA functions. Serves as primary QC Approver for OOS investigation reports.
  • Ensure adherence to stability study protocols, manufacturing validation protocols, and test method validation execution in support of New Product Introductions (NPIs), coordinating with R&D and QA to meet project timelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the document owner for QC department procedures. Independently review, revise, and approve protocols, SOPs, and test methods per document control policies.
  • Support retain samples program within QC functions, ensuring proper documentation, storage conditions, and routine sampling in compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures adherence to stability and test method validation testing execution to support NPI.
  • Maintains and improves compliance with 5S standards for cleanliness, safety, and organization within all QC areas. Lead adherence to internal 5S audit schedules.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives including Lean, Six Sigma, and Total Quality Management (TQM) to drive operational excellence in the QC Laboratory.
  • Represent QC in cross-functional meetings and during internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory assessments.

Qualifications

Education Required: Bachelor's Degree                        

Certification(s): Specify preferred or required.

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related science field required.

Six Sigma or related certification required.

Auditor (CQA) or related certification preferred.

Computer Skills Required: Specify preferred or required.

Proficiency with Adobe, Microsoft Word and, Excel.

Other qualifications:

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience working in an ISO 13485:2016 or FDA GMP regulated environment required.
  • Minimum two (2) years in a supervisory or leadership role required. Proven leadership abilities on training, mentoring, and team-building skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 13485:2016, 21 CFR Part 820, and 21 CFR Part 11 required.
  • Strong knowledge of analytical equipment, analytical methods, method validation and data analysis required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic analytical laboratory software (e.g., Open Lab or Empower) required.
  • Knowledge of compendial methods (ie. USP, EP, ISO, ASTM) required.
