The Director of capital equipment is a dynamic and results-driven leader who will direct, develop and implement the necessary functional and process competencies to plan, source, purchase and deliver world-class product. Key activities for this position include, developing category strategies, risk mitigation, market analysis, RFx development, negotiation planning, competitive price and cost analysis, financial analysis, contract development and supplier management. The Capital Equipment Strategic Sourcing Director will work with the various equipment and Eng. teams within R&D and Manufacturing that support Wafer fabs, Media Development, Materials and Development Labs, NPI, Reseach and capital services to develop new sourcing strategies. The Capital Procurement organization is responsible for assessing, sourcing, and managing WD capital equipment suppliers, supporting WD’s technology and operational track globally.


The incumbent requires to develop and maintain strong collaborative and cooperative working relationships with team members across different functions and at different levels within the organization. The position requires enthusiasm, passion, attention to detail and a desire to lead high-performance team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages complex sourcing initiatives, leads cross-functional teams and ensures teams understand supply market dynamics and develop innovative supply solutions.
  • Manage WD’s growing supply base by implementing Commodity Strategies and drive continuous supplier improvement through development of scorecard and KPI expectations.
  • Influencing the supplier (or suppliers) in investments that meet WD future requirements.
  • Accountable for all aspects of supplier relationship management including all technical, commercial, delivery and quality.
  • Develops and support the overall vision, strategy and execution plan for the global CAPEX Sourcing function. Achieving deeper alignment with stakeholders to pursue business strategies in innovation, agility and supply reliability.
  • Negotiate and execute master supply contracts and other critical agreements.
  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders to identify opportunities to leverage our partners’ capability to grow business.
  • Lead and manage the category strategy definition and planning across a portfolio of categories grounded in rigorous data analysis.
  • Lead rapid de-risk of raw material and equipment supply base and develop appropriate strategies to ensure successful launch of NEW products.
  • Supply Risk Management, understanding supply base risks and taking preventative actions in the supplier network and contract designs
  • Establish and manage strategic supplier relationships at the executive level.
  • Work in partnership with the various engineering teams to develop an approved and qualified global supply base, develop strategic partnerships that address our needs and, on an ongoing basis, continuously improve supplier performance and continuity of supply.
  • Prioritize sourcing efforts, develop baseline spend and manages sequential sourcing waves.
  • Responsible for conducting spend analysis, analyzing supply markets, identifying sourcing value levers, supplier segmentation and executing competitive RFx and leading supplier negotiations.
  • Builds strong relationships with Executive Team and key stakeholders across the business to agree on business goals and key requirements and remove obstacles for sourcing teams.
  • Ensures integrity of savings tracking and reporting efforts and works with Finance team to ensure negotiated savings are realized.
  • Establishes leading supplier management practices, building policies and procedures for reviewing supplier performance and ensuring new value is created year over year.
  • Promote a culture of inclusiveness, teamwork and collaboration that allows the company culture to thrive and prosper throughout the organization.
  • Continuously work toward building a high-performance Sourcing team.
Qualifications

Required:

  • B.S./B.A. degree required (in relevant area such as Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or similar discipline)
  • MBA and other relevant degree /certification (e.g., CPM, CPSM) highly desirable

  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential suppliers, evaluate their capabilities, and assess market trends, ensuring the selection of optimal suppliers.

You will negotiate contracts, analyze commercial terms, and improve pricing across an assigned category of indirect spend including Contingent Workforce, such as Technical Services and Business Services for our Engineering and Deployments team. You will develop category strategies and use market intelligence to develop alternative sources. You are someone who is comfortable working while taking full ownership of your domain.

In addition to the procurement, and vendor management responsibilities, you will contribute to the of the procurement function. This includes creating and refining processes and templates that can be applied across all vendors and categories worldwide.

You will work onsite at our San Jose office, and report to our Indirect Procurement Manager.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Develop important team member relationships to create strategic sourcing models for professional services that improve the value of necessary goods and services
  • Implement cost-effective procurement practices, optimizing supplier performance and competitive pricing

The person in this role will be responsible for supplier identification and selection for direct materials to support new and existing products in support of scale up, cost reduction, quality improvement, risk reduction. The Qualifications We Need You To Possess

BS degree preferred or equivalent work experience

15+ years of working experience working in direct materials for new and existing products

Experience with and a functional understanding of the manufacturing processes utilized by the suppliers of mechanical components (precision machining, sheet metal, plastic injection molding and other plastics processes) or contract manufacturing, OEM or electro-mechanical components (motors / sensors), or electronic components (PCA/PCBA/Optics)

**Responsibilities**
Program Management
- Manages internal and external cross-functional partnerships, monitors and resolves internal partner's issues without additional escalation, defines processes and governance for on-boarding and managing supplier partnerships, influences near-term sourcing decisions by discussing details and implications (e.g., tradeoffs, pricing), and seeks to align investments with supply needs to ensure continuity of supply in alignment with product and/or service roadmaps.
Strategic Sourcing
- Sets savings targets for managed categories. Supports cost and supply chain operations needs relevant to contract manufacturers and/or system integrators (e.g., invoice, buffer strategy, technology transitions, qualification planning, approved vendor list, meets or exceeds technical standards). Makes and delivers to budget commitments.
- Ensures that supply chains are robust to disruptions and that mitigation plans are in place that can address issues with manufacturing, geography/geopolitics, seasonality, financial health, performance, and/or major unavoidable events (e.g., climate events, COVID-19) by sharing personal expertise and best practices. Serves as a primary point of escalation for leading the resolution of supply chain continuity issues.
- Researches markets, competitors, and industry trends. Performs analyses of supplier pricing, cost, capabilities, and capacity to provide materials and/or components for Microsoft products and/or services, and uses the results to make sourcing recommendations for sourcing strategies for one or more product categories.
- Makes recommendations for investments in new technologies, initiatives, components, and/or materials that are critical to products and/or services based on technical expertise in those products/services, suppliers, and industry trends. Acquires buy in from stakeholders to ensure that resources are in place and influences the adoption of technologies across specific product categories based on needs of Microsoft products or services. Makes recommendations for extending the life of existing investments.
- Defines, maintains, and executes on sourcing strategy for one or more complex product categories to ensure advantaged cost and sufficient continuity of supply while meeting quality goals (e.g., sustainability, repairability, etc.). Considers all relevant elements of technical roadmaps and business requirements (e.g., risk management, investments, supplier relationship, technology adoption) and partners with cross-functional teams to develop sourcing strategies and influence product-making decisions.
Supplier Management
- Manages the financial health of a product category by engaging cross-functionally early in the development stage of products and programs, and developing plans to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities. Compares suppliers' quoted costs and total costs of ownership with expected cost benchmarks and what products should cost, to forecast future state of the business, evaluates the systematic cost implications of sourcing decisions across product categories, and manages the resolution of complex ad hoc cost issues (e.g., tariffs/import export cost, cost inflation). Makes and delivers to budget commitments.
- Integrates business specifications for complex product categories into request for information (RFI) and/or request for proposal (RFP) processes. Collaborates cross-functionally to define and manage supplier scorecard criteria (e.g., key performance indicators (KPIs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs)). Recommends opportunities for suppliers to innovate, improve, and transform operational capabilities.
- Manages contract and price negotiation activities and strategies for complex product categories, ensuring that price, capacity, and business needs are met, appropriate risk mitigation measures are defined, and that suppliers are consistently driving costs competitiveness. Where appropriate, ensures compliance with Microsoft's requirements for cross-functional engagements with suppliers. Makes and delivers to budget commitments.
- Serves as Microsoft's central point of contact for suppliers within assigned product categories, leads the enablement and development of new suppliers, defines, and evaluates supplier financial health and key performance indicators (KPIs), leads regular business reviews with suppliers to ensure consistent compliance with Microsoft business requirements (e.g., security, social responsibility, payment terms), manages and holds suppliers accountable for exceptions to quality requirements, drives timely corrective actions from business reviews and audits, and facilitates efforts to drive suppliers toward their operational and cost metrics.

Technical Engagement
- Recommends and/or influences with minimal guidance whether or not to introduce new technologies, materials, or components for Microsoft products or cloud infrastructure based on the availability of supply, supplier capability and capacity, competitive and industry trends, and the impact on profits and losses. Evaluates long-term business needs, technology maturity, and tradeoffs to influence decision making and suggests processes for implementing changes.
- Supports early engagements with cross-functional leadership including product design, quality, and business teams to determine sourcing requirements for system integrators. Provides consultation and influences engineering design teams on the choice of materials and/or components that can be reliably sourced for products or service infrastructure, and highlights systemic implications of sourcing decisions beyond a single component.

The Capital Equipment Strategic Sourcing Director will work with the various equipment and Eng. teams within R&D and Manufacturing that support Wafer fabs, Media Development, Materials and Development Labs, NPI, Reseach and capital services to develop new sourcing strategies. The Capital Procurement organization is responsible for assessing, sourcing, and managing WD capital equipment suppliers, supporting WD’s technology and operational track globally. The incumbent requires to develop and maintain strong collaborative and cooperative working relationships with team members across different functions and at different levels within the organization. The position requires enthusiasm, passion, attention to detail and a desire to lead high-performance team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages complex sourcing initiatives, leads cross-functional teams and ensures teams understand supply market dynamics and develop innovative supply solutions. Manage WD’s growing supply base by implementing Commodity Strategies and drive continuous supplier improvement through development of scorecard and KPI expectations. Influencing the supplier (or suppliers) in investments that meet WD future requirements. Accountable for all aspects of supplier relationship management including all technical, commercial, delivery and quality. Develops and support the overall vision, strategy and execution plan for the global CAPEX Sourcing function. As a new member of the Revolution Medicines team, you will join other outstanding scientists in a tireless commitment to patients with cancers harboring mutations in the RAS signaling pathway. The Opportunity: Serve as Revolution Medicines’ primary business operation lead and project management interface between internal PDM functions and Contract Research Development Manufacturing Organization (CRDMOs) for drug substance, including raw materials, key starting materials, and regulatory starting materials by providing adequate oversight. Establish and maintain mutually beneficial long-term business relations with CRDMOs. Lead contract negotiations in close collaboration with cross-functional team (Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Legal) to ensure best terms and conditions. Support preparation and execution of CRDMOs business reviews with PDM senior management and business counterparts. Support development and implementation of outsourcing strategies for PDM. Drive the selection process for CRDMOs in collaboration with technical SMEs. Ensure projects/programs meet desired results, compliance, speed, quality, and cost. Support development of scope of work (SOW) in close collaboration with technical SMEs. Support cross-functional CRDMO management activities, covering all aspects such as business needs identification, market screening, contracting, vendor qualification and set-up, compliant delivery of services, and discontinuation. Required Skills, Experience and Education: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in scientific field with 8+ years of experience in pharmaceutical strategic sourcing and/or supply chain. Experience working with domestic and international CRDMOs. Experience managing both strategic and tactical/operational projects. Working knowledge of and experience in clinical manufacturing, regulatory, QA, and cGMP requirements for small molecules. Working knowledge of small molecule drug development and commercialization, including, but not limited to, raw material and starting material sourcing, API/drug substance manufacturing, process development, process engineering, and process characterization. Working knowledge of pharma end-to-end supply chain. Strong negotiation skills. Solid project management, facilitation, and problem-solving skills. Solid organizational and time management skills. Effective, open, and transparent communication skills (verbal and written). Capable of working on multiple projects/tasks and able to meet timelines.
