Job Summary

The Senior Bridge Engineer designs and produces structural plans for bridges, retaining walls, and culverts, as well as performs design calculations, technical reports, and quality control reviews. The position requires collaboration with project managers, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to diverse projects.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and oversee bridge-related tasks and projects, ensuring timely and efficient delivery.
  • Develop comprehensive plans, specifications, and estimates for diverse bridge projects.
  • Conduct NBIS inspections, prepare detailed reports, and perform live load ratings.
  • Prepare technical reports and perform alternative analyses for optimized outcomes.
  • Provide construction phase services, including review of shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and other construction related issues.
  • Mentor junior staff and oversee work of CADD Technicians for collaborate growth.
  • Contribute to project pursuits by creating technical approaches.
  • Execute preliminary and final designs for steel and concrete bridges, walls, and culverts.
  • Ensure alignment with client standards.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to discuss progress and technical requirements.
  • Prepare project documentation such as feasibility studies, condition reports, and evaluations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary project coordination and team collaboration.
  • Maintain professional registration and provide technical guidance to team members.

Professional Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis or structural engineering degree. Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred, PhD a plus.
  • Active Illinois Structural Engineer (S.E.) license. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is a plus.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in structural/bridge design, including steel and concrete bridges.
  • Familiarity with Illinois DOT, Illinois Tollway, and Chicago DOT standards. Experience with Class I railroads is a plus.
  • Proficient in structural design software such as MicroStation /OpenBridge / OpenRoads, Mathcad, LEAP Bridge, MDX, LPILE and others.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communications, technical report writing, and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience with AASHTO, AREMA, and industry standard design codes.
  • Background in bridge rehabilitation, inspections, and new construction projects.
  • Bridge and structure inspection experience preferred. Bridge Inspection Team Leader qualification preferred.
  • Transit or railroad bridge design experience considered a plus.

**Summary**
Responsible for leading structural analysis on basic engineering projects (LRU installation, in-flight entertainment systems, etc.), performing and documenting structural engineering, testing analyses and substantiation required to support the installation design and certification of technology onboard commercial aircraft.

+ Actively assists project management and engineering team in solving internal and external analysis-related challenges
+ Responsible for development and review of relevant structural analysis documentation required on basic engineering projects
+ Coordinate analysis engineering vendors for outsourced analysis work such as CFD, dynamic simulations, etc.
+ Review installation design at both preliminary and critical design review stages to provide inputs to design based on preliminary stress analysis
+ Develop stress analysis models, utilize existing structural analysis tools (such as FEMAP), and/or perform hand calculations to substantiate the structural integrity of installation designs with oversight from senior engineers and FAA designees
+ Develop fatigue and damage tolerance evaluations for installation designs using hand calculations and/or analysis tools (such as AFGROW)
+ Document structural analyses and fatigue assessments in Structural Substantiation Reports and Damage Tolerance Evaluation Reports
+ Develop basic cooling analyses using hand calculations to substantiate to specific cooling requirements and document in Cooling Substantiation Reports
+ Perform and document weight and balance analyses to substantiate the weight and balance impact of the installed system then document in Weight and Balance Change Reports
+ Develop test plans and reports in support of structural and/or cooling substantiation
+ Review analysis documentation for basic projects
+ This position may require knowledge of SOX / 404 internal audit controls and related documentation.

**Investigates and assesses damages due to failures and determines the origin of failure for insurers and litigation support.**
**Determines and documents the failure analysis and causation of failures.**
**Produces detailed reports outlining the cause and origin of losses and damages.**
**Documents and maintains billable hours on a time and expense basis for failure analysis and forensic engineering projects for clients.**
**Adheres to quality assurance measures and accreditation standards as mandated by all applicable rules, policies, protocols and procedures.**
**Collaborates with the national team of forensic experts to leverage experiences and assist on projects.**

**Education & Licensing**
**Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university**
**Engineer-in-Training Certification**
**Skills & Knowledge**
