Amazon workers in the UK are to strike on Black Friday, one of the company's peak shopping days.

More than 1,000 employees at its Coventry warehouse will take part in the industrial action led by the GMB union.

The protest stems from an ongoing row over pay and working conditions.

It’s expected to be the most significant day of strike action in Amazon's history.

However, Amazon assures customers that the strike won't disrupt services.

The union plans coordinated demonstrations and strikes in the UK and other European countries, as well as the US.

Amazon recently announced plans to increase the minimum starting pay to £13 per hour for employees from April.

However, the GMB union advocates for a minimum wage of at least £15 per hour and better working conditions as staff struggles with the cost of living crisis.

A parallel protest is scheduled outside Amazon UK's head office in London.

"Working people who make Amazon's business model possible stand up to demand their share of the company's enormous wealth"

GMB official Amanda Gearing said: "Today will go down as a turning point in Amazon's history. Working people who make Amazon's business model possible stand up to demand their share of the company's enormous wealth.

"Despite that, Amazon bosses are desperate to claim it will be business as usual for Amazon and their customers this Black Friday."

Ms Gearing added: "The truth is that today will see the largest day of industrial disruption in Amazon's history.

"With industrial action escalating and workers joining strike action in Europe and the USA, it's clear this strike is inspiring Amazon workers worldwide to fight to force the company to change its ways."
