Meesho creates over 500,000 jobs for festive season

E-commerce platform Meesho is preparing to create about 5 lakh seasonal jobs as India prepares for the upcoming festive season.
It marks a 50 percent increase compared to its previous seasonal job offerings.
Meesho intends to add 200,000 job opportunities through collaborating with third-party logistics partners.

Those are Ecom Express, DTDC, Elastic Run, Loadshare, Delhivery, Shadowfax, and Xpressbees.
Notably, over 60 percent of these jobs will be in Tier-III and Tier-IV regions.
These positions primarily focus on first-mile and delivery associates responsible for sorting, loading, unloading, and return inspections.
Sourabh Pandey, Meesho's Chief Experience Officer for Fulfillment and Experience, said: “We are anticipating a substantial uptick in demand during this festive season.
“The creation of these opportunities is focused on enhancing the overall customer experience during the festive season and empowering countless small businesses.”

Additionally, Meesho sellers would hire over 300,000 seasonal workers to meet the surging customer demand.
These staff will assist sellers in various capacities, including manufacturing, packaging, and sorting.
Furthermore, more than 80 percent of Meesho's sellers plan to diversify their offerings by introducing new products.
They would enter new categories like fashion accessories and festive decor.
To accommodate this growth, over 30 percent of sellers are investing in additional storage space for their inventory.

According to TeamLease, a staffing company, the festive season will likely generate 500,000 new jobs for gig workers across India.
TeamLease forecasts a notable 25 percent in gig jobs compared to the previous year.
Demand for roles in warehousing, last-mile delivery, and call centres is particularly high in Tier-II and Tier-III cities.
Other e-commerce giants like Flipkart and Myntra also contribute to this employment boom.
Flipkart plans to create over 100,000 new job opportunities in its supply chain.

Similarly, Myntra aims to increase female hiring significantly during its annual marquee event, the Big Fashion Festival.
Overall, India's e-commerce sector is poised for significant growth during the festive season, with sales expected to reach ₹ 90,000 crore ( $10.8 billion).
It marked an 18 to 20 percent increase from the previous year, according to a report by Redseer Strategy Consultants.
