A major manufacturer of industrial vehicles plans to invest tens of millions to widen its South Carolina factory, state and company officials reported.

KION North America, a subsidiary of Germany's KION Group, announced a $40 million investment in its Summerville, South Carolina, operations.

In order to bring production back to the United States, the company will build new assembly lines that will include automated weld systems, crane systems, paint operations, and other features.

KION, which does own the Linde Material Handling and Baoli brands, says it is one of the world's leading manufacturers of industrial trucks.

According to officials, the project is a part of their efforts to increase their market share in North America.

It is anticipated to generate roughly 450 jobs and would especially restore the production of forklift masts.

Jonathan Dawley, president and chief executive officer of KION North America, stated that the company will now be able to reach more clients with its extensive portfolio and tailored solutions.
