Tyne and Wear is a metropolitan county in the North East region of England. It consists of South Tyneside, North Tyneside, Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead and Sunderland. Once known as a shipbuilding town, Sunderland now has some top employers for international automotive and financial centres. Since the city’s regeneration in the 1980s, Sunderland’s economy has been ever-growing, with Nissan opening a motor manufacturing branch in 1986.
