OnlyFans' CEO has stepped down and appointed a spokesperson to replace him

OnlyFans CEO jobs Tim Stokely has stepped down as founder, and spokesperson Amrapali "Ami" Gan has been named as his replacement, effective immediately. The selection appears to be unusual.

"Ami has a deep passion for OnlyFans’ business and I’m passing the baton to a friend and colleague who has the vision and drive to help the organization reach its tremendous potential," Stokely said in a press release on Tuesday. "OnlyFans is still a new company and Ami brings a fresh energy and reflects who we are as a business."

Nonetheless, despite Stokley's confidence in Gan's leadership, naming her as OnlyFan's new CEO appears to be an odd choice on the surface. Gan joined OnlyFans as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer just a year ago, after working in a variety of marketing and communications roles prior to that. It will be interesting to see how she intends to expand the platform and where she intends to steer the company.

"I look forward to continuing to work closely with our creator community to help them maximize control over, and monetize, their content," said Gan. "By blending state of the art technology with creative capital, we are committed to being the safest social media platform in the world."

According to OnlyFans, Stokley's decision to resign was motivated by a desire to "pursue new endeavors," though the company declined to comment further when contacted by Mashable. Even so, Stokley isn't going to vanish into thin air. The company's first CEO will remain on as an advisor during the leadership transition, ensuring a smooth transition of power.

OnlyFans, which was founded in 2016, rose to prominence as a popular platform for sex workers, allowing them to charge for exclusive content such as explicit photos. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the platform saw an increase in work from home users as many people tried to make up for lost income, and OnlyFans gained celebrity users such as Bella Thorne and Cardi B.

Despite its success as a result of sex workers, OnlyFans attempted to ban sexually explicit content earlier this year, claiming that the platform's raunchy reputation was discouraging investors. The company quickly reversed its decision after receiving widespread criticism from users, particularly sex workers who feared the ban would jeopardize their ability to earn a living. However, the threat of a ban has shaken some sex workers' trust in OnlyFans, leaving Gan with the unenviable task of restoring that trust.
