T-Mobile will reportedly fire corporate employees who aren’t fully vaccinated by April 2nd

T-Mobile plans to dismiss corporate employees who have not been properly vaccinated against COVID-19 by the beginning of April according to an internal email obtained by Bloomberg,

Bloomberg reports employees who have only received one dose as of Monday, February 21, will be placed on unpaid leave, according to T-Mobile Head of human resources, Deeanne King.

In a statement to The Verge, T-Mobile said: “T-Mobile’s badge-controlled offices continue to be accessible only to those who are vaccinated against COVID-19."

"We've informed our employees that all office workers must be completely vaccinated by April 2, 2022."

The corporation uses a digital pass system to keep track of employees' vaccination status.

The company did say there would be "limited" exceptions "for particular positions, places, and legally needed accommodations and exemptions."

The guideline applies to corporate employees who work in the office on a regular or irregular basis.

Employees working in customer service will be required to produce proof of receiving the first dosage of vaccination by Monday, February 21, but will not be placed on unpaid leave if they fail to do so.

The mandate will not apply to technicians or store staff though the business still recommends vaccination and frequent testing.

“We understand that this is a deeply personal decision for some employees but we believe that taking this step will put us in the best position to protect our T-Mobile community,” T-Mobile explained to The Verge.

The company is not the first to insist on vaccinations against COVID-19, despite courts around the US stalling President Joe Biden's vaccine mandate for big employers.

Employees were given until January 13th to present proof of vaccination or submit an exemption, or face 30 days of administrative leave, followed by six months of unpaid absence, and termination if they were still not in compliance.

Intel has also informed staff that if they are not vaccinated by January 4th, they will be placed on unpaid leave, while Meta and Apple are also demanding employees produce documentation of a COVID-19 booster dose.

T-Mobile is based in Bellevue, Washington and employs 75,000 people.
