Yodel to Hire 3,000 Workers Ahead of Festive Shopping Surge

Parcel carrier Yodel is preparing to hire 3,000 additional workers to manage increased demand during the upcoming festive season.

The company is gearing up for its busiest period, which includes Black Friday and Christmas. It plans to bolster its workforce through a seasonal recruitment drive.

Yodel's move is part of its annual strategy to expand its team of couriers and warehouse staff during the "golden quarter" of retail, when parcel deliveries are expected to surge.

In previous years, the company has added as many as 7,000 seasonal employees to meet demand. This year, it anticipates parcel volumes will rise by more than 50% in the coming months.

The hiring effort comes just weeks after Yodel secured £85 million in funding from PayPoint and Independent Growth Finance, providing the financial backing needed for this expansion.

The new roles will offer flexible working conditions, allowing couriers to fit deliveries around their existing schedules.

Yodel CEO Mike Hancox said:

“As we head into the busiest time of year for retailers, we’re expanding our workforce to meet the boom in demand for parcel deliveries as the ecommerce market continues to grow,”

With over 190 million deliveries annually, Yodel is a key player in the UK’s parcel delivery market. This seasonal expansion is crucial to ensuring the company can meet the heightened demands of the festive period.
