Google to spend $1.7 billion on Ohio data center expansion

Google has it will spend an additional $1.7 billion this year to staff its three data centers Ohio.
The company already has invested $2 billion in the region since it opened its data center in New Albany in 2019.
Mark Isakowitz, Google's vice president of government affairs and public policy, said: "It's amazing to see the growth in the area."

The announcement comes after Google's recent announcement it is building two more data centers in the state - one in Columbus and another in Lancaster.
Google didn't reveal too many details about the plan, but said the money would support all three sites in the state.
The news comes after Amazon it will spend another $7.8 billion on data center expansion over the next six years.
This is the second biggest private investment in Ohio state history.
Google says the Columbus data center on the old Hartman Farm is now operational, and the Lancaster site will open soon.
An opening date was not given.
Isakowitz said: "Our continued investment in Ohio is a testament to not only the business environment, but the strong community we're building.
"Ohio is home."

200 jobs created
Google claims to have created more than 200 jobs for people in the state including computer technicians, engineers, food services, maintenance and security roles.
He continued: "(Artificial intelligence) is a critical part of our future.
"The $1.7 billion investment will help insure and reassure that Ohio is the tech hub of the Midwest," Lt. Gov. Jon Husted said.
"Our challenge for us to continue to build a workforce to accomplish these goals."
