Primark’s €40 Million Expansion Brings 500 Jobs To Portugal

Penneys store building

Fashion retailer Penneys, known as Primark outside of Ireland, has announced a €40 million investment to expand its presence in Portugal.

This expansion will include opening four new stores, creating 500 jobs, and increasing its selling space in the country by 30 percent.

This will bring the number of Primark stores in Portugal to 14, with the first opening in 2009.

This investment is part of Primark's broader growth strategy to expand in new and existing markets.

The company aims to reach 530 stores by 2026.

Primark recently entered its 17th market by opening its first store in Budapest, Hungary.

The company also invests in Ireland, and a new store is set to open in Bray, Co Wicklow, this summer.

"Primark is a retailer built entirely around our stores, so we know that a big part of our success is our committed retail colleagues who have supported us every step of the way and have been our best ambassadors in helping Portugal fall in love with Primark.
