Cards Against Humanity Sues SpaceX Over Land Dispute

Cards Against Humanity Sues SpaceX for $15 Million Over Land Dispute

The company behind the popular game Cards Against Humanity is suing SpaceX for $15 million, accusing Elon Musk’s firm of trespassing and damaging a plot of land it owns.

The lawsuit has been filed in Texas. It claims SpaceX has been using the land without permission for the past six months.

Land Bought to Block Trump’s Border Wall

Cards Against Humanity, often known for its creative stunts, bought the land in Cameron County, Texas, in 2017. This was part of a campaign to prevent the construction of a border wall during Donald Trump’s presidency. Over 150,000 people contributed $15 each to the “Cards Against Humanity Saves America” initiative. This allowed the company to buy the land and block the wall’s construction.

Accusations Against SpaceX

In the lawsuit, the company, referred to as CAH in legal documents, stated:

“We acquired the property solely to ensure it would remain untouched.”

The suit goes on to accuse SpaceX of damaging the land’s natural state and claims this damage has also harmed CAH’s relationship with its supporters.

The company has made its feelings clear in the complaint.

It alleges “SpaceX f***ed the land, further alleging “Musk dumped his s**t all over our gorgeous plot of land without asking.”

Failed Negotiations and the $15 Million Lawsuit

According to the lawsuit, after discovering the alleged trespass, SpaceX gave Cards Against Humanity a 12-hour ultimatum to accept a lowball offer for less than half the land’s value.

The company declined and proceeded with the legal action.

Cards Against Humanity is seeking $15 million in damages

In a bold move, it has also promised the original contributors to the 2017 campaign $100 each if the lawsuit is won.

A dedicated website, “elonowesyou100dollars.com,” to publicize the case and the potential payout has been launched.

Looking Ahead

As the legal battle unfolds, the outcome could have broader implications for landowners near SpaceX’s operations.

Cards Against Humanity has positioned the lawsuit as a fight for more than just compensation, framing it as a way to protect their supporters and the integrity of the land. Whether Musk and SpaceX will respond or seek further negotiations remains to be seen.
