Frozen food giant Iceland to recruit 1,000 Christmas drivers and store staff

The jobs are across the UK as Iceland expects a massive surge in demand over the next few months.

Iceland currently has 1,029 vacancies for seasonal staff across the country.

Iceland is one of many retailers looking for more staff for the festive period.

Supermarkets especially are looking to increase staff numbers.

Aldi has announced it will be creating more than 3,000 new roles in time for Christmas.

Courier firm Yodel is also looking for 10,000 new staff for the period.

Research from Indeed shows job seekers are starting to look for Christmas roles.

The company's research shows searches are already higher than during the pandemic, but not quite back at the level of 2019 yet.

Indeed's data shows shares of seasonal jobs in the driving, food preparation and service and loading and stocking categories are similar to last year and close to pre-pandemic levels. 

Top Christmas hirers include supermarkets, cosmetics, toys, clothing and jewellery stores, as well as suppliers of grottos.

Jack Kennedy, UK Economist at Indeed, said: “Christmas hiring is well underway, but filling vacancies could prove challenging in an incredibly tight labour market, with jobseeker interest yet to return to pre-pandemic levels.

"Encouragingly, sectors which typically offer numerous seasonal jobs, like retail, logistics and hospitality, have been hiring in large volumes for the past 18 months since reopening.

"Cost-of-living pressures could prompt more people to look for seasonal work over the winter, but it remains to be seen how much of an effect this has on hiring conditions.”
