Iceland Named UK’s Best Supermarket To Work For In 2024 By The Sunday Times

Iceland has been recognised as the best UK supermarket to work for in 2024, according to The Sunday Times’ annual Best Places to Work list.

This prestigious accolade highlights organisations that excel in employee engagement and well-being.

Iceland and its sister brand, The Food Warehouse, stood out as the sole supermarket in the ‘very big’ organization category to make the list.

The Sunday Times evaluates companies across six key areas:

  • Reward and recognition
  • Information sharing
  • Empowerment
  • Wellbeing
  • Instilling pride
  • Job satisfaction

This comprehensive approach aims to identify the UK’s leading employers who are dedicated to creating exceptional workplace environments.

Among the benefits Iceland offers are enhanced family-friendly policies, generous long-service awards, and recently introduced healthcare schemes accessible to all staff members.

A notable aspect of its employee support is the focus on wellbeing through the Employee Assistance Programme.

It also has specialized services like Alvie, which aids staff diagnosed with cancer.

Iceland’s employees also enjoy financial perks such as a 15 percent store discount and holiday vouchers for in-store purchases during the festive season.

Iceland group HR Director Helen Tindle said: “It’s so important for us to look after our colleagues, ensuring they feel valued and have a sense of belonging in the Iceland family.

“This is why we invest for the long-term in driving colleague engagement and supporting career development.

“The biggest changes and innovations in our business are driven by colleague feedback and suggestions, with employee listening playing a huge role.

“We are proud to run annual Pulse surveys, Director listening groups, and dedicated colleague support services to learn more about what our teams want – helping to inform policy and shape our benefits package.”
