Amazon has announced plans to create more than 1,300 new jobs in Port St. Lucie and other locations across Florida. The expansion is part of the company’s ongoing investment in the state, which has already seen over $36 billion injected into Florida’s economy since 2010.
Amazon’s Economic Impact in Florida
Amazon’s influence on Florida’s economy has been substantial. The company’s 2024 U.S. Economic Impact Report highlights several key contributions:
- Jobs Created: More than 52,000 direct jobs have been generated in Florida.
- Economic Contribution: Amazon has added over $38 billion to Florida’s economy.
- Indirect Jobs Supported: In 2023 alone, Amazon supported more than 82,000 indirect jobs in various sectors, including construction, transportation, retail, healthcare, and hospitality.
New Investments Starting in Port St. Lucie
Amazon’s next wave of investment will begin in Port St. Lucie with the construction of a new one-million-square-foot Inbound Cross-dock facility. This site will manage the intake of third-party and Amazon products for distribution to fulfillment centers across the region.
Additional Sites Across Florida
In addition to the Port St. Lucie facility, Amazon will establish three new delivery stations in Melbourne, Jacksonville, and Tampa. These sites are expected to create more than 1,300 full- and part-time jobs, with hourly employees earning an average wage of over $20.50.
