Tesco Employees To Work Up To Three Days In Office

Tesco office workers will see an increase in their required in-office days from two to three per week starting in September.

This move aims to foster more in-person collaboration among colleagues.

Full-time employees must be in the office for at least three days each week, which could be at their contracted office or another relevant location, depending on their role.

For part-time workers, the expectation is to match the principle proportionally.

Last year, Tesco became the first UK supermarket to grant all staff the right to request flexible working.

The retailer believes that increased in-person interaction enhances its ability to fulfill its core purpose.

The company said working together in person strengthens connections between staff, shoppers, and suppliers, leading to higher engagement levels, more opportunities for idea generation, and better access to development prospects.

The supermarket chain noted time spent at other locations and connecting with different teams will be considered within its guidelines.

It allows staff to work up to 40 percent of their working week from home.

Additionally, Tesco will continue to honour any previously established flexible working arrangements.

Tesco UK & ROI people director James Goodman said: “Since launching our approach to hybrid working in 2022, we’ve learned a lot about the benefits that a hybrid model brings, with greater flexibility, improvements for wellbeing and efficiency gains that help us all have a better work/life balance.

“We’ve reviewed our policy so that we can maximise the best bits of hybrid working, while also making sure we’re able to build and support high-performing teams with a collaborative culture.”
