UK car maker Rolls Royce to give £2,000 to staff members to ease cost of living crisis

Rolls Royce is giving its staff a £2000 cash bonus

The iconic British car maker Rolls Royce will give £2,000 in cash to nearly three-quarters of its workforce to combat the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Sky News reports the group has told thousands of employees it is offering the lump sum as well as a four percent pay rise dating back to March.

Shopfloor workers are in line to receive the pay rise and another 3,000 junior managers will get the £2,000 boost.

Around 14,000 staff will benefit from the decision.

The world-famous car maker, whose vehicles have featured in numerous classic films like the Bond films and Iron Man.

In total, 20,000 people work for the engine-maker in Britain.

A source who has seen the memo told Sky junior managers would get their money in August.

Union members will get their money once the offer is accepted by Unite - the union representing thousands of Rolls Royce staff.

The move is set to cost Rolls Royce £28 million.

The decision is said to have been made by Warren East, the chief executive who is set to leave the company, who decided it was essential for staff morale.

He was said to have told workers in the memo: "We are living through exceptional times, with economic uncertainty largely driven by the continuing impact of the global pandemic and more recently the war in Ukraine.

"All of this is impacting each of us at home, at work and in our pockets."

A Rolls-Royce spokesman declined to comment.
