Anthropic, a notable competitor to OpenAI, announced the release of its most powerful AI model to date, Claude 3.5 Sonnet.
This new model marks a significant advancement in the AI space, offering improved performance and capabilities.
Claude is one of the leading chatbots, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, which have gained substantial popularity over the past year.
Founded by former OpenAI research executives, Anthropic is backed by major players like Google, Salesforce, and Amazon.
Over the last year, Anthropic has secured five funding rounds, amassing approximately $7.3 billion.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet follows the Claude 3 model series launch in March and OpenAI’s GPT-4 in May.
According to Anthropic, the Claude 3.5 Sonnet is the first in the new Claude 3.5 series and surpasses its predecessor, the Claude 3 Opus, in speed.
The model is free via Claude.ai and the Claude iPhone app, with higher rate limits available to Claude Pro and Team subscribers.
In a blog post, Anthropic highlighted Claude 3.5 Sonnet’s enhanced ability to understand nuance, humor, and complex instructions.
The model excels at producing high-quality content with a natural, relatable tone and can write, edit, and execute code.
Additionally, Anthropic introduced “Artifacts,” a feature allowing users to generate text documents or code and view the results in a dedicated window, creating a dynamic workspace for real-time editing and development.
This feature will benefit various fields, including code development, legal contract drafting, and business report writing.
The release of Claude 3.5 Sonnet comes amid an AI arms race.
Startups like Anthropic and OpenAI and tech giants like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta strive to integrate advanced AI technologies.
