American Airlines is supporting humanitarian efforts in Ukraine through cash collected in flights and online through its Change for Good program.

The leading airline announced its support to UNICEF by reaching vulnerable children and families in Ukraine to provide basic facilities like water, sanitization, immunization, and healthcare.

Schooling and learning support, in addition to an emergency cash assistance, will also be provided for up to 7.5 million children.

Until the end of March, opportunities will be created for customers and team members of the airlines, focusing on international destinations and Hawaii for fundraising.

The donation program intends to serve children in Ukraine and neighboring countries by providing critical medical supplies to cover the rapid needs of internally displaced people in nine strategic municipalities.

Brady Byrnes, Vice President of Flight Service for American said, “It is deeply troubling to see the humanitarian crisis unfolding as a result of the conflict in Ukraine.”

Byrnes added: “Our purpose at American Airlines is to care for people on life’s journey and in order to truly fulfill that purpose, we must step up when it matters most.”

The Change for Good program creates a partnership between UNICEF and the international airline industry to raise funds donated by customers for vulnerable children around the world.

America’s flight attendants have managed to raise over $17 million dollars since the alliance started in 1994.

During March, donations from AAdvantage miles to Miles for Social Good program are utilized to transport physicians and relief workers to Eastern Europe, seeking to assist humanitarian relief in Ukraine.

Airlink, a rapid-response humanitarian relief organization, providing airlifts and logistics solutions in time of crisis will assist in this operation.
