Wilko set for expansion with new store openings

Wilko is gearing up to expand its presence with a new store set to open in Poole, Dorset.

The retailer has also announced the opening dates for its new locations in Rotherham and St Albans.

This comes as Wilko's new owner, The Range, progresses with its ambitious plan to reintroduce the Wilko brand across the UK.

The acquisition of Wilko's intellectual property last October has paved the way for this expansion.

The new Poole store will be located in the Dolphin shopping centre, with its opening date to be announced soon.

Wilko has also scheduled the launch of its Rotherham store in Parkgate Shopping Park and its St Albans store in The Maltings shopping centre for Good Friday, March 29.

This expansion follows the successful opening of Wilko stores in Plymouth, Exeter, and Luton under The Range's ownership last December.

These stores have reportedly experienced strong initial trading, indicating a positive reception from customers.

Chris Dawson, the founder of The Range, has said the plan is to pen up to 40 Wilko stores across the UK within the year, aiming to revitalise the discount chain.

He said: “I would say 30 to 40 in the first year. Then it’ll be the same, if not more, the following years till we fill the place up.”

He said the company has several more stores planned to open before Easter.
