Elon Musk To Testify In SEC Probe Over $44 Billion Twitter Acquisition

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who sued OpenAI

Elon Musk has agreed to testify in the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) investigation into his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter.

A legal document filed on Thursday indicates Musk waived his right to appeal a court order requiring his testimony.

Musk is now set to appear at an SEC office for a deposition lasting up to five hours.

The specific date has been agreed upon but remains undisclosed for confidentiality reasons.

The SEC began investigating Musk in 2022 for failing to disclose his stake in Twitter, now called X, properly.

SEC filed a lawsuit against Musk last October after he refused to testify.

The agency alleged that he “abruptly notified the SEC staff that he would not appear” just two days before his deposition and declined to reschedule.

Earlier this year, the SEC accused Musk of attempting to delay the investigation.

Musk has previously clashed with the SEC, accusing the agency of “unrelenting” harassment and infringing on his free speech.
