The French government is to restrict unemployment benefit rules to encourage more people to work.
Prime Minister Gabriel Attal made the announced in an interview with La Tribune Dimanche on Sunday, May 26.
Under the new plan, the maximum period for claiming unemployment benefits will be reduced from 18 to 15 months.
Additionally, to qualify for unemployment benefits, people will need to have worked for at least eight months within the last 20 months.

This change is from the current requirement of six months within the last 24 months.
Attal said the government intends to implement these reforms by decree, bypassing parliamentary approval.
The changes are scheduled to take effect in December.
