Finnish tissue paper manufacturer Metsa Tissue plans to create over 400 jobs in East Yorkshire.
The company has announced a significant investment to build a state-of-the-art mill in Goole’s new freeport site.
This mill would become the UK’s largest tissue paper production facility and a beacon of sustainable technology.

Metsa Tissue aims to enhance the nation’s self-sufficiency in fast-moving consumer products while reducing reliance on imports.
The project is dependent on planning approvals, environmental permits, and final investment decisions.
If successful, Metsa will occupy a sprawling 200-acre area with an annual production capacity of 240,000 tonnes of tissue paper.
This comes on the heels of Amazon’s confirmation of a massive fulfilment centre in Melton and Siemens Mobility’s train manufacturing site near completion.

It collectively signals a significant economic upswing for the region.

Metsa Tissue, a subsidiary of Metsa Group, is a co-operative with a £6 billion turnover of over 90,000 private forest owners.
The proposed facility would mark the first major development in the Goole tax site within the Humber Freeport.
Metsa’s sister timber business already has UK operations, further strengthening its presence there.
