Supreme Rice’s new product line brings 20 new jobs to Louisiana

A rice milling company is to spend $16.2 million to create 20 new jobs at its site in Louisiana.

Officials with the Louisiana Department of Economic Development have confirmed Supreme Rice will make the investment in facilities to make ready-to-eat products will create 20 jobs in Acadia Parish.

Supreme Rice is investing in building parboil facilities in Crowley and Mermentau, according to a news release from the state's economic development department.

The company will construct a new facility in Mermentau to partially cook the rice for the new product line.

It plans to build a new parboil mill inside its existing Crowley facility.

Construction is expected to start later this year.

The state says the company will retain 181 current jobs.

The state provided an incentive package including $1.5 million from the state’s Economic Development Award Program.

“As a processor of one of Louisiana’s key crops, Supreme Rice is both a cultural ambassador and an agribusiness leader for our state,”

Gov. John Bel Edwards said: “This expansion and the new jobs it will generate in Acadiana will help to sustain the growing momentum of our rural revitalization efforts.”
