Job Summary:
The Corporate Counsel, Construction role will be responsible for protecting the business by identifying, administering, and managing a variety of legal matters, with a primary focus on construction law issues. This position provides professional and ethical guidance to minimize risks regarding contract performance, claims, collections, and statutory remedies. The role collaborates closely with internal project managers, procurement teams, and external counsel to draft, review, and negotiate complex construction agreements. Additionally, the position supports corporate governance, board of directors, and entity management matters while maintaining a hybrid schedule in the local office.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:-
Advise and counsel Project Managers and internal teams on construction law issues, contract performance, and project delivery strategies to optimize the business's legal position.
- Supervise construction litigation and affirmative collection matters, utilizing statutory remedies to preserve payment rights, and coordinate with outside counsel or claims consultants.
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert for construction law, managing outside counsel selection, performance, billing efficiency, and alignment with litigation strategy.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various construction agreements, change orders, master agreements, and vendor contracts while developing and maintaining standard forms and templates.
- Prepare concise briefing documents, legal research opinions, and discovery responses, and serve as the corporate representative at hearings, arbitrations, or trials.
- Support the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary with corporate governance, entity management, and the preparation of Board of Directors and Committee materials.
- Utilize software to track, analyze, and report on construction law metrics, developing KPIs to manage litigation budgets and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide training on construction contracts and law principles to internal departments, respond to business-records subpoenas, and apply lessons learned to improve business processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Deep understanding of construction law, including statutory remedies (mechanics' liens, payment bond claims) and contract performance.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct quick, accurate legal research on matters outside the attorney's primary area of expertise.
- Excellent drafting and writing skills for complex contracts, policies, and legal documents.
- Strong decision-making ability with a high sense of ownership, accountability, and a results-oriented mindset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and present to all levels of the organization.

- The Senior Project Manager is the single-source responsibility to ACCO and the customer.
- Perform all project management functions required to promote and finalize sales including concept engineering, complete estimates, written proposals, direct meetings, leading to successful job completion.
- Successful management of contracts, including sales, estimating, procurement, and execution.
- Oversight of field labor and installation sequencing between the customer and ACCO’s field leadership.
Understand financial aspects of the job
- Forecasting, preparing budget projections, and control costs within agreed-upon limits.
- Provide letters, proposals, memos, contracts, change orders, strategies, etc. for good business procedures and legal protection.
- Billing, while maintaining a clear understanding of job costs.
Build and manage relationships with internal and external customers
- External Client Relations – Leadership of client meetings and development of contracts to finalize sales. Maintain cordial relationships with all clients, including vendors, subcontractors and the industry.
- Internal Team Coordination – Provide supervision, leadership and coordination of all ACCO departmental efforts including Engineering, Purchasing, Accounting, Construction and Service during project construction in a timely manner.
- Contribute to special studies, committees, etc., to advance ACCO’s technical abilities in engineering, planning, estimating, installation procedures, and related areas.
Effective communication with internal and external customers
- Consult with appropriate ACCO personnel including all Management and Department Heads.
- Attend all ACCO Project Management Sales and Construction Meetings.
- Schedule and coordinate pre-construction job meetings with department heads and supervisors.
- Utilize internal resources to the fullest extent necessary to meet the customer requirements:
- The Project Manager utilizes and coordinates staff from all departments, as needed, for each project.
- During the life of a project, the Project Manager manages and supervises employees assigned to the project to achieve the project vision and contracted scope associated with the customer requirements.
- Mentor others, actively participate in recruiting, training, and coaching of sales staff to support department initiatives and growth.
- Other duties and special assignments as directed by upper management to accomplish mutually agreed upon goals.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 10 plus years of experience in estimating, design and/or management of HVAC projects from $50,000 to $100+ million.

- Lead and oversee Hydronic Virtual Construction leadership and Detailers in your assigned area to ensure standards and processes are aligned to achieve consistent predictable outputs that are in line with company goals and standards
- Foster a support mentality within the group such that everything done within the Virtual Construction team is to facilitate a more efficient installation of the project at a higher level of quality than if the project hadn't utilized the Virtual Construction team.
- Operations - Assist direct reports with the following:
- Assignment of project lead positions
- Proper team assignment for all projects
- Execution strategies for assigned projects
- Resolution of issues, challenges and obstacles
- Understanding and execution of QA/QC protocols
- Understanding and ensuring compliance to applicable Building and Mechanical codes
- Assist the team in the creation, modification, and alignment of standard processes to sustain Best Practices in the industry across all locations and regions to ensure they are aligned and have the ability to be self sufficient
- Participate in regular departmental meetings
- Evaluate and advise on means and methods of continuous improvement within the Virtual Construction group to increase efficiency, improve quality, and lower operating costs within the shop, field and office to lower costs and meet project goals

- Evaluate and recommend modifications and enhancements to the companies BIM execution plan and SOP
- Monitor and advise on quality control measures to ensure high-quality output at or above industry standards
- Coordinate with the Construction Technology, Engineering and Construction Operations leadership teams to identify areas of improvement to support optimal collaboration across the company to facilitate improvements in design, fabrication, and installation practices on projects
- Coordinate with the Training team to develop and deploy training materials necessary to support the growth and development of the Virtual Construction team
- Assist Operation Manager with departmental budget and financial planning
- Advise on modifications and maintenance of submittal standards library
- Assist Regional Sales Leadership with strategic pursuits
- Prepare for and attend large project pursuit interviews/presentations as needed
