Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Aerospace TIG Welder specializing in manual and orbital GTAW processes. This role involves welding high-performance aerospace alloys while ensuring strict compliance with industry standards, procedures, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual and automated GTAW (TIG) welding systems
- Perform precision welding on aerospace components and exotic alloys
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical documentation (WPS/WPQR)
- Conduct pre-weld preparation, cleaning, and post-weld inspection
- Inspect welds using visual and measurement tools to ensure compliance
- Troubleshoot welding equipment and processes
- Maintain clean, organized, and FOD-free work areas
- Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve welding issues
- Support training and mentorship of junior welders
- Follow all safety procedures and quality standards
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 8+ years of welding experience (aerospace preferred)
- AWS D17.1 certification (Groups IIb, IIIB, VII – 1G or higher)
- Strong experience with manual GTAW (TIG) welding
- Experience with orbital GTAW systems (Orbitalum, AMI, or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret WPS, WPQR, and technical drawings
- Knowledge of purge systems, backing gas control, and weld inspection methods
- Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Experience
- Welding exotic aerospace alloys such as:
- Haynes 188
- Hastelloy X
- Inconel 718
- L-605 (Cobalt)
Pre-Screen Requirements (Must Be Included in Resume)
- AWS D17.1 certification details (groups and positions)
- Total years of welding experience (including aerospace/exotic alloys)
- Experience with orbital GTAW systems (Yes/No)
- Ability to read and work from WPS/WPQR documents (Yes/No)
- Ability to pass weld qualification testing within 2 weeks (Yes/No)
