Job Summary:

In this role, you will plan, develop, coordinate and review plant design and piping work on large projects having specialized requirements. You will optimize facility layout based on diagrams, client needs, current technology, and operational and maintenance requirements. Your technical input will ensure configuration compliance, procurement requirements are met, and complex issues are resolved.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews engineering work, such as engineering drawings, calculations and bid summaries, within Plant Design and Piping discipline on projects of medium size and complexity or assignments in support of multiple business unit. Applies broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices to project engineering in the preparation of engineering analyses. Makes decisions concerning problems within the discipline and represents the discipline on the project and with the client as directed to resolve technical questions.

  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management. Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly. Reviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries. Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators) and coordinates with client representatives to obtain approval on phases of work.

  • Coordinates assigned engineering work with other project groups. Provides technical guidance and interfaces with the day‑to‑day technical work of discipline engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters, in addition to mentoring them through provision of appropriate on‑the‑job training. Maintains contacts, as directed, with client representatives, suppliers, appropriate field personnel and other disciplines. Experience in LNG will be preferred.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • A recognized degree in a job‑related engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college or university, or a professional license in an appropriate engineering or scientific discipline from a recognized licensing board, or specialized courses in relevant general engineering, design or science or an appropriate engineering discipline.

  • Experience Required- Minimum 15 Years of experience as Piping Layout Engineer

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Broad progressive work experience in design engineering, science, or other relevant types of engineering such as systems start‑up, field engineering or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants, or engineering/construction firms.

  • Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the discipline. Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline. Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline. Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods. Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines. Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.

  • Must have good knowledge of application of 2‑D (Microstation/Auto CAD) and 3‑D CAD tools (S3D /Autoplant 3D) in development of conceptual designs and production design deliverables of some complexity.

  • Should have led a team of 3 to 10 piping layout engineers & designers on executed project.

Several combined cycle power projects are currently planned to be developed and executed by Bechtel over the next 5‑10 years. Job Summary

The Principal Engineer – Control Systems will support the development and execution of combined cycle power projects in the Control Systems discipline. In this role, you will utilize individual technical knowledge to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate the engineering technical aspects for complex power projects. You will participate in project planning, proposal review, and will own the engineering elements of capital estimates. Your technical guidance and recommendations will ensure engineering aspects meet project requirements and remain within scope and budget. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing the technical investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s control systems aspects. You will have oversight of design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of control systems instrumentation and equipment. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a combined cycle power project’s control systems design aspects are met.

"This position is designated as part‑time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in‑person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in‑person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership."

Major Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, modification and evaluation of control‑system components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Communicate complex technical issues and recommend solutions to upper management.
  • Develop conceptual designs for Control Systems engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements.

  • Ability to develop logic diagrams and control philosophies for equipment and system operation on combined cycle power plants.
  • Ability to optimize selection and sizing of control valves for steam, water and gas services.
  • Ability to select and specify instrumentation for measurement of process parameters including temperature, pressure, and flow for steam, water and gas services.
  • Experience with layout and design of control rooms and control room HMI equipment.

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10–13 years of relevant experience, or 14–17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge And Skills
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and control valves including specifications, generation of data sheets, application of tubing, and instrument installations.
  • Knowledge of control system design including digital and analog control logic, control system network architecture, allocation of facility control system I/O, graphic displays, and acceptance tests.
  • Demonstrated strong frontline leadership skills with an emphasis on continuous improvement and team building, and the ability to handle conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
  • Ability to facilitate technical discussions with third parties such as clients, suppliers, and regulators.
  • Prior experience planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in semiconductor, data center, and life sciences market segments.
  • Licensed Professional Engineering (PE) in Control Systems.
