POSITION GOAL

To assist in meeting the social service needs of families with Early Childhood Education students, by providing targeted services, including encouraging parental involvement in their children's education, explaining programs and procedures, providing support in locating community resources, participating constructively in parental group meetings and performing other related duties.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Visit students' homes to explain school programs, help parents/families to become full partners in their child's education, reinforce positive attitudes of parents and students towards school, and to learn of any home problems that may have a bearing on student accomplishments in school; report such problems to the appropriate program and/or school personnel.
  • Assist in organizing, recruiting, and providing support to the Early Childhood Education classrooms, Policy Council, and committees that require parent involvement; and assist in coordinating activities that will encourage parent involvement in the school and community programs.
  • Assist in the development of criteria used in the screening process and determine appropriate program participants.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, individual supervisory sessions, workshops, and parent group meetings.
  • Compile, edit, and maintain information required for program reports and assist with the preparation of the reports, as requested.
  • Conduct all personal contacts with parents, students, school staff members and the general public in the appropriate manner to maintain positive relations and assist in meeting the social service needs of early childhood education students.
  • Become knowledgeable of all public and private service agencies, which could be utilized to serve the participating families and direct the families to these agencies, as needed.
  • Provide feedback on the attitudes, opinions, and concerns of the program participants to appropriate individuals.
  • Assist in monitoring attendance and recruitment.
  • Confer, on a regular basis, with the assigned school Social Worker, to ensure that all federal and state program standards are met, and appropriate documentation is submitted, including Head Start Performance Standards, if applicable.
  • Provide family literacy materials, resources, and activities to support emergent literacy in the home environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

A minimum of two (2) years, within the last five (5) years of experience, in the field related to the title of the position. Valid certification in one of the following discipline(s): social work, human services, family services, counseling or related field. Certification must be obtained within the first eighteen (18) months of employment. OR An earned associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in social work, human services, family services, counseling or a related field. Note that candidates with associate and bachelor's degrees that are not in the specified field of study must obtain valid certification in one of the following discipline(s): social work, human services, family services, or counseling. Position Overview

Determine the impact of proposed land use issues and growth management legislation on Broward County Public Schools and communicate the anticipated impact to the appropriate governmental agencies and the public. Direct all real estate matters for the School Board. Oversee the management of the District’s administrative sites and facility planning matters, including the generation and maintenance of the School District’s Five-Year Educational Plant Survey, compliance with FISH mandates, and maintenance of FISH data.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Determine the potential impact on the School District of proposed development applications in Broward County by overseeing the review, analysis, and provision of reports and information to all relevant parties.
  • Act as the School Board liaison with Broward County, local governments, development review agencies, and state and federal governments regarding growth management and urban planning issues.
  • Monitor and respond to proposed legislative and local ordinances that pertain to the areas of responsibility and their potential impact on Broward County Public Schools.
  • Work with developers, consultants, and attorneys to ensure that appropriate mitigation is proffered to offset the costs associated with providing additional student capacity as a result of proposed residential developments.
  • Recommend as necessary school impact fee waivers to the Board for residential developments that meet the waiver requirements.
  • Ensure the District is represented at local government meetings and public hearings as the primary School Board representative on local planning or equivalent agencies concerning issues with potential impact on Broward County Public Schools.
  • Ensure effective communication throughout the District concerning growth management issues impacting other departments and the community.
  • Ensure that the growth management policy of the School Board of Broward County continues to be consistent with obligations contained in the Amended Interlocal Agreement for Public School Facility Planning and develop appropriate amendments and revisions of the policy as needed.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of the growth management policy by monitoring the District’s adherence to stated policy and establishing and coordinating the necessary internal processes to implement applicable legal provisions.
  • Oversee all real estate matters for the School District and work collaboratively with other District departments and the General Counsel’s Office, as applicable, to protect the District’s interests.
  • Negotiate all leases pertaining to real property on behalf of the School Board.
  • Act as the School Board’s liaison with Broward County local governments on matters pertaining to interlocal agreements (such as Reciprocal Use Agreements and Master Lease Agreements) for the use or lease of District facilities, including updating agreements and maintaining records.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in urban planning, urban and regional planning, environmental planning, or related fields with majors in public administration, architecture, or urban design.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of combined experience within the last fifteen years in facilities planning, urban planning/growth management, and real estate in a school district, local government, private sector, or comparable setting.
  • Knowledge of Florida growth management laws and the comprehensive plan amendment review process, and experience in real estate, public school facilities planning, as it relates to the Florida Inventory School of Houses (FISH) and the Five-Year Educational Plan Survey or similar state data requirements. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • An earned master’s degree from an accredited institution in urban planning, urban and regional planning, environmental planning, or related fields with majors in public administration, architecture, or urban design.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of combined experience within the last thirteen (13) years in facility planning, urban planning/growth management, and real estate in a school district, local government, private sector, or comparable setting.
Significant Contacts

Head Coach

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

The Head Coach Qualifications: Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of any General Education Development (GED) Testing Program. Florida State Statute mandates that all high school coaches hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate. Applicants who do not hold a valid Florida Educator Certificate will be required to obtain an Athletic Coaching Certificate from the Florida Department of Education. Knowledge of the sport and the ability to impart this knowledge.

  • Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
  • Shall have a knowledge of the activity and be able to impart this knowledge to the participants.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.
