- Hire, train, and supervise engineering staff; provide ongoing coaching and performance management
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and staffing plans
- Ensure proper use of resources while maintaining high standards of quality and safety
- Perform other duties as assigned
This position reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for leading and managing the Engineering department. The role requires independent judgment, strong leadership, and effective decision-making.
Why You Are Qualified:- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in physical plant operations, preferably in senior living or a related environment
- Hands‑on experience with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
- EPA Certification or ability to obtain within the first 6 months
- Strong working knowledge of tools, equipment, and repair techniques
- Experience with fire systems, emergency response systems, and disaster preparedness
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 25 pounds

As the Director of Engineering, you will oversee all aspects of the community's physical plant operations while ensuring a safe, attractive, and well-maintained environment for residents, visitors, and associates.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee all physical plant operations, maintenance, engineering, and safety programs
- Develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules and work order systems
- Monitor the condition of buildings, grounds, equipment, and mechanical systems
- Coordinate maintenance projects with vendors, contractors, architects, engineers, and service providers
- Oversee HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems
- Administer the community Risk Management Program
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and company regulations
- Assign, supervise, and support maintenance staff while promoting a safe work environment
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, and forecasts
- Maintain maintenance records, policies, procedures, and documentation
- Train and mentor maintenance team members

The ideal candidate will have:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in physical plant operations, facilities management, or maintenance leadership
- Experience with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Working knowledge of preventative maintenance programs
- EPA Certification or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire
- Experience troubleshooting building systems and maintenance equipment
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high quality standards
Preferred Experience
Experience in senior living, assisted living, healthcare, hospitality, apartment communities, commercial facilities, or property management is preferred but not required.
Physical RequirementsThis position requires frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting throughout the workday. Candidates must be able to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance and perform the physical duties associated with maintaining a senior living community.
