Position Overview

The Director of Finance directs district financial operations and supports the Business Administrator in ensuring fiscal accountability and compliance with financial regulations. This position oversees budgeting, financial reporting, accounting systems, and financial planning to ensure efficient use of district resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze financial information, including budget projections, cost analyses, and financial reports.

Experience

Required :

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, or fiscal management.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience in preparing and monitoring budgets and financial reports.

Preferred :

  • Experience in the public sector or governmental accounting.
  • Experience in K–12 school district finance.
  • Experience managing state and federal education funding programs.
Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field required.
Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field preferred.

Job Goal: The Director of Food Service is responsible for the effective management, coordination, and supervision of the district’s food service program in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This individual ensures the delivery of nutritious, appealing, and cost-effective meals to students and staff, while fostering a safe, sanitary, and welcoming dining environment.

Performance Responsibilities
  1. Plan, organize, and direct the district’s food service and nutrition programs.
  2. Develop and implement district-wide policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, including USDA requirements and maintain ongoing professional development.
  3. Supervise Head Cooks and guide the overall operation of the district food service program.
  4. Assist in the development and preparation of the annual budget of the food service operations and authorizes expenditures in accordance with established guidelines.
  5. Review, interpret, implement, monitor, and supervise regulations, policies, procedures and ensure compliance with the National School Breakfast Program, National School Lunch Program, After School Snack Program, and the Summer Food Service Program.
  6. Develop, monitor, and process applications for the Summer EBT and Education Benefit Programs; according to current policies and regulations as required by the State of Michigan.
  7. Assemble data for Federal and State reports; gather supporting documentation and submit detailed reports for federal and state compliance.
  8. Develop and implement special foods events and initiatives in alignment with district goals and community engagement.
  9. Interview, hire, train, and evaluate food service staff per contract guidelines.
  10. Work with Human Resources on food service staff issues, such as: approving employee time cards, hiring, employment issues, contract procedures, and schedule management.
  11. Develop and monitor work schedules for food service staff.
  12. Supervise and evaluate food service staff per Support Contract guidelines.
  13. Provide training to food service staff, to maintain proper levels of Professional Standards, per the USDA.
  14. Select food and supplies for use on menus, in coordination of Federal, State and USDA regulations and procurement standards. Maintain inventory systems and ensure timely ordering of food and supplies.
  15. Develop breakfast, lunch, and after school snack menus in accordance with Federal and State guidelines.
  16. Develop snack menus for preschool and daycare programs.
  17. Choose and verify Smarts Snacks in School, per USDA guidelines (items used in ala-carte and vending machines).
  18. Determine food pricing annually and ensure cost-effective practices throughout operations.
  19. Set up and manage all accounts for students and employees in POS system (Meal Magic).
  20. Enter accounts payables in Skyward; after verifying invoices.
  21. Deposit receivables for food service at Horizon Bank.
  22. Balance cash drawers daily and resolve discrepancies.
  23. Maintain and communicate medical alerts and 504 Accommodations for students with special dietary needs, attend 504 meetings.
  24. Collaborate with the Athletic Department for event food planning, purchasing and receiving.
  25. Active involvement in cabinet meetings, Studer training, District-wide Safety meetings, and Wellness Committee.
  26. Actively attend MDE Town Hall meetings, webinars and professional conferences.
  27. Maintain membership in the School Nutrition Association and School Nutrition Association of Michigan.
  28. Oversees the operations of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan to reduce the risk of foodborne illness and procedures to respond to food recall alerts.
  29. Follows food recall alerts.
  30. Understands the operation of kitchen equipment use and safety.
  31. Foster a culture of employee safety requirements into food service operations, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the food service team.
  32. Develops guidelines for providing services in emergency situations.
  33. Maintains confidential information.
  34. Assist CFO in development and preparation of the annual budget and accounting requirements, grant funding compliance and financial documentation.
  35. Reconcile bank statements, track revenues, enter accounts payable into Skyward, and manage deposits through Horizon. Monitor and authorize expenditures in line with established guidelines.
  36. Completes and complies with Grant Funding – FFVP, LFS, PeBT, 10 Cents a Meal, etc.
  37. Performs other duties as assigned.
