Job Overview

The Student Assistant I performs standard administrative duties for multiple individuals or customers. Activities are routine and may be repetitive. Basic duties include receiving and logging information, making copies, sorting and distributing mail, preparing correspondence or basic documents, answering routine questions and inquiries, providing information and directions, and providing a customer‑friendly environment.

Essential Job Functions
  • Operates a variety of office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, photocopier, facsimile, scanner, or calculator.
  • Opens, sorts, and distributes mail for one or more managers.
  • Performs clerical tasks related to job responsibilities and departmental projects, including but not limited to typing and proofreading letters, memorandums, forms, and reports.
  • Maintains and files department documents.
  • Assists with the distribution of information to the public, students, and faculty by phone, mail, or other appropriate means.
  • May provide support to assigned area during college representation functions.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all records and databases associated with assigned area.
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to gain knowledge of the rules and procedures of the college.
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with the public, students, faculty and staff.
  • Show a professional presence in dress, speaking, handwriting, and use of personal cell phone during working hours.
Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary. The employee typically sits comfortably. There may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Work Schedule and Conditions
  • Equipment used includes PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment.
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.
  • Work is performed in a climate‑controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be a currently enrolled Lone Star student pursuing a course of study.
Compensation and Benefits

Hourly Pay Rate: $11.32

Qualifications

Candidates must be board certified/eligible in orthopaedic surgery and eligible for an unrestricted license in the State of Maryland. This position requires a medical degree from a recognized accredited domestic university (or foreign equivalent), a strong commitment to patient care and teaching, and the ability to work well in a team setting. Expected rank for this position will be Assistant Professor or higher, however, final rank and tenure status will be commensurate with selected candidate's experience.

Expected Salary Range: $325,000 to $600,000 (Commensurate with education and experience). The referenced salary range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the departmental faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental variable compensation programs. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary from the salary range stated herein. For more information, please contact the hiring department. The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on the University of Maryland School of Medicine's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
