Job Summary
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, a nationally recognized leader in patient care, education, and research, invites applications for the position of Vice Chair of Clinical Research.
This is a unique opportunity for an accomplished academic leader to shape and expand the department s research enterprise across translational and clinical research domains. The Vice Chair of Clinical Research will collaborate closely with departmental and institutional leadership to drive innovation, secure external funding, and advance UT Southwestern s reputation as a destination for orthopaedic research and discovery.
Responsibilities
The Vice Chair of Clinical Research will:
* Develop and execute a comprehensive research strategy aligned with the department and medical school s strategic goals.
* Foster interdisciplinary collaborations across UT Southwestern and partner institutions to enhance translational and clinical research.
* Mentor faculty, residents, fellows, and trainees to promote academic productivity and career development.
* Advise the Chair on research faculty recruitment, resource allocation, and programmatic growth.
* Oversee departmental research operations, including clinical trial infrastructure, funding and compliance.
* Enhance research visibility through internal communications, annual research retreats, and national presentations.
* Partner with Education and Faculty Affairs leaders to build robust mentorship and bridge-funding programs for early- and mid-career investigators.
* Promote collaboration with industry, foundations, and government agencies to grow extramural funding.
Qualifications
* M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree.
* Board certification or eligibility in Orthopaedic Surgery and eligibility for Texas Medical Licensure
* A strong record of independent, peer-reviewed funding (e.g., NIH, DoD) and scholarly productivity in orthopaedic or related musculoskeletal research.
* Leadership experience directing research programs, laboratories, or divisions in an academic or comparable environment.
* Demonstrated ability to build and sustain collaborative research teams.
* Proven track record in mentorship, faculty development, and research infrastructure growth.
* Experience integrating translational and clinical research programs.

This position is based within the UT Southwestern Spine Center, a highly integrated, multidisciplinary program that brings together PM&R, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Anesthesia Pain to deliver comprehensive, coordinated care for patients with complex spine conditions.
Job Summary
Under the leadership of Department Chair Dr. Heakyung Kim, PM&R at UT Southwestern delivers world-class care at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Parkland Memorial Hospital, and affiliated outpatient clinics. The ideal candidate will thrive in an academic environment, providing exemplary patient care while educating and mentoring the next generation of rehabilitation physicians. As part of one of the largest PM&R residency training programs in the United States, the faculty member will have the opportunity to work closely with residents, fellows, and medical students in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting.

- Manages the Ophthalmology Clinic Photography group.
- Maintains and ensures high level of customer service, including effective communications with staff, physicians, and patients. Directs and organizes operational and clinic processes. Executes effective system of internal controls to ensure processes are effective and efficient. Ensures adherence to policies and procedures. Recommends and/or implements changes as necessary.
- Mentors, coaches, and trains staff on photographer/angiography equipment and practices to achieve a high level of performance and standards of care. Sets and prioritizes tasks and responsibilities. Monitors work for accuracy. Ensures adequate staffing for procedures.
- Performs or coordinates photography for Department of Ophthalmology research protocols and fundus photography for new research projects in collaboration with other departments.
- Responsible for interviewing applicants, hiring, disciplinary actions, and termination of employees. Completes annual performance reviews, recommends merit increases, and completes performance appraisals.
- Ensures the photography group maintains adequate levels of supplies and equipment is maintained. Recommends types of equipment and supplies to purchase and stock.
- Reviews photography/angiography procedures with patients and follows up with them to answer questions, resolve any issues. Assists physicians with photography procedures. Works with community physicians to schedule procedures. Supervises coordination of photographic exhibits at conferences and meetings of ophthalmologists and ophthalmic photographers.
- Maintains patient satisfaction.

The Role

Division of Pediatric Endocrinology
The mission of the UT Southwestern Pediatric Endocrinology Division is to provide excellent, high-value care to children with diabetes and endocrinological disorders while driving the field forward through research & innovation and by participating in the education of future physicians at all levels of training. The growing Division comprises 15 faculty members who play a pivotal role in advancing clinical and scholarly programs focused on various critical areas of endocrinology, including diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemias, metabolic bone disease, and other related fields. The Division's commitment to excellence is reflected in its affiliation as a Comprehensive Care Center of the CARES Foundation for congenital adrenal hyperplasia, membership in the Type 1 Diabetes Exchange (a national quality improvement collaborative), and position as one of twenty-two Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet International Clinical Centers, spearheading pioneering research in type 1 Diabetes. Additionally, the Division has an active fellowship program, which is supported, in part, by an NIH T32 grant that sits within UTSW's Department of Internal Medicine.
The Division's catchment area extends north and east into Oklahoma, Louisiana and southwestern Arkansas, Fort Worth into West Texas, and south as far as Houston. Clinical care is delivered at Children's Medical Centers of Dallas and Plano, along with other care sites affiliated with Children's Health. Its services also extend to consultation services at Parkland Hospital, Clements University Hospital, Texas Health Resources, and other affiliated care facilities managed by the Pediatric Group of UT Southwestern Medical Center. Recognizing the rising demand for endocrinology care in the expanding Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, which boasts a population exceeding 7,500,000, the Division is actively engaged in programmatic expansion efforts to ensure that it can effectively meet the growing needs of children requiring these specialized services.
Education and Professional Qualifications
• MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent) from an accredited medical school is required.

JOB SUMMARY
The Payment Application Specialist I works under general supervision and is responsible for the accuracy of facts and/or figures posted to patients, company and suspended and/or pending accounts. - Process and apply payments (checks, ACH) to company, patients accounts.
- Reconcile daily cash receipts and resolve unapplied or misapplied payments.
- Research and correct payment discrepancies and variances.
- Maintain accurate records of transactions in accounting systems.
- Assist with month-end closing activities and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and internal controls.
- Work from home - This is a WFH position. Applicants must live within the Greater DFW area.

2 years hospital/medical office payment posting or bookkeeping experience
- Posts payments received from insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, patients, etc., to invoices which may involve: a) Research any payment application problems; b) Verifying all documents received; c) Takes appropriate corrective action including contacting insurance companies, patients and/or other insurance carriers to resolve questions to which invoice a payment should be posted; d) Updating the Financial Status Classification (FSC) of a patient; e) Preparing journal vouchers and f) Generating invoices.
- Analyzes automatic processes for correctness and posts all edits and rejects as required. Interacts with Supervisor and Group Leader in assuring data is accurate and submitted in accordance with processing deadlines.
- Posts rejected and pre-post edits manually for payments received electronically with knowledge of electronic positing and reconciliation process.
- Research problem accounts in order to properly post payments. Elevates appropriate posting issues to Group Leader or Supervisor.
- Balances all batches and resolves discrepancies.
- Proper posting of critical company accounts, transplant, research, and complex IA accounts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
