Full Job Description

We are seeking a talented and motivated Atmospheric Scientist to join our dynamic team focused on developing and validating atmospheric aerosol algorithms and products. In this role, you will play a crucial part in advancing our understanding of aerosol processes, improving algorithms, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our aerosol-related products. Work as part of a team supporting NOAA scientists in developing, maintaining, and validating algorithms for sensing aerosols, water vapor, and trace gases from satellites. Trace gases may include NO2, SO2, and O3; sensors may include polar and geostationary NOAA and NOAA-partner satellites.

Responsibilities:

Algorithm Development:

Collaborate with the research and development team to contribute to designing, implementing, and improving aerosol algorithms.

Conduct thorough analyses of aerosol-related data sets to identify areas for algorithm enhancement.

Validation and Testing:

Develop and implement validation plans to assess the performance and accuracy of aerosol algorithms.

Conduct rigorous testing and validation procedures to ensure the reliability of developed algorithms and products.

Data Analysis:

Analyze aerosol data sets, draw meaningful insights, and provide recommendations for algorithm optimization.

Work closely with data scientists to interpret results and contribute to scientific publications.

Technical Support:

Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders regarding aerosol products and algorithms.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address user inquiries and troubleshoot technical issues.

Documentation:

Prepare comprehensive documentation for developed algorithms, validation processes, and product specifications.

Ensure that documentation is clear, accurate, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.

Contingency Note:

This position is contingent upon the successful award of a contract. While we are optimistic about the outcome, the final confirmation of the position is subject to contract approval. Next Phase is a member of the incumbent team.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science (PREFERRED), Earth Science, Geophysics, or Environmental Science.

Proven experience in aerosol research, algorithm development, and validation.

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or similar for data analysis.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Required Skills/Experience:

Experience with remote sensing data related to aerosols.

Familiarity with machine learning techniques applied to aerosol research.

Previous work in a scientific support role, preferably supporting NOAA.

Required Qualifications:

Must be US citizens or green card holders and have established residency in the US for the past three (3) years. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
