Full Job Description

Pay Rate:  $16.50 hourly

30 – 40 hours per week

General Description and Classification Standards

The Atlanta City Council is recruiting for summer interns. Interns perform various and diverse administrative and/or project duties depending on specific department and job assignment. This title is typically assigned to someone attending college who is interning to gain more experience and knowledge of a specific function in municipal government. 

Supervision Received

Works under direct supervision and follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities   These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  May perform other duties as assigned.

Performs various and diverse administrative, clerical, and/or project duties. Collects information/data. Compiles and prepares reports. Prepares and/or generates routine correspondence, letters, memoranda, forms, and other documents via computer. May prepare presentations for staff members. Responds to routine requests for information or assistance from officials, members of the staff, or other individuals. Attends project, neighborhood and/or team meetings. May organize electronic filing systems, communicate with various business partners, and perform other clerical duties in addition to administrative/project assignments. Engages in on-the-job training on operational policies and work procedures to attain the necessary talents which allow the incumbent to contribute to the work being produced by the organizational unit to which assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities   This is a partial listing of necessary knowledges, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully.  It is not an exhaustive list.

Good Microsoft Office skills.

Good planning, organizational and presentation skills.

Good verbal and written skills.

Ability to quickly assimilate new information into a work process to achieve the desired objective outcome.

Ability to independently collect information needed and transpose into finished product.
