Position Summary

The Custodian, with the approval of the Corps Officer, will organize, implement, and direct the maintenance of the Murrieta Corps building help with Social Services, and any driving needs.

Essential Functions

* Adhere to and, if necessary, reorganize daily custodian schedule of the interior and exterior areas of the corps facility.

* Develop and execute a periodic check system to service emergency lights, fire alarms, fire protection systems, building mechanical equipment, and vehicles.

* Adhere to and, if necessary, reorganize daily set-up schedules for various programs.

* Identify maintenance and landscape projects necessary to the upkeep of the property.

* Small projects to be done in-house when time and skills permit. Such projects are to be done in a competent and timely manner.

* Large projects you will notify the Corps Officer.

* Raise/lower both The American flag and The Salvation Army flag each weekday.

* Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and notify supervisor or purchase when they are needed for all maintenance and janitorial purposes.

* Transport program participants for camps, events, and weekly programs as assigned by Corps Officers.

* Pick up weekly scheduled donations and other donations as assigned.

* Assist and support with all seasonal operations as assigned.

* Keep maintenance closet and supply areas neat and clean.

* Use protective equipment when using cleaning supplies or spraying chemicals.

* Work closely and cooperatively with other staff members when maintenance/custodian needs arise.

* Keep sidewalks, entryways, and all landscaping areas clean and free from trash.

* Attend staff meetings when assigned.

* Utilize and supervise volunteers assigned to corps.

* Perform all other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift up to 100lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications

* Minimum high school graduate or equivalent.

* Ability to read, write, and communicate well in English/Spanish preferred.

* Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on intermittent or continuous basis.

* Ability to grasp, bush, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.

* Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

* Must maintain a valid California Class C Drivers License within 90 days of employment.

* Must be able to maintain a Food Handlers Card.

* Must be able to maintain First Aid Training.

* Must successfully complete Decision Driving Safety Test Before driving for The Salvation Army and annually recertify as required.

* Must meet certification by and participation in The Salvation Armys Fleet Safety Program (Salvation Army Fleet Safety Policy dictates that an employee may not obtain more than two (2) moving violations or accidents within any 12-month period; see The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Policy).

* Ability to operate and maintain custodial and gardening products and equipment.

* Ability to prioritize and address projects, which may conflict, in a time-sensitive manner.

* Ability to communicate effectively; ability to interact with co-workers, management, leadership, and the general public in a positive, productive manner.

* Ability to analyze problems and to reach acceptable and workable solutions; ability to implement solutions and bring projects to fruition.

* Ability to present oneself in a professional manner; ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in relation to information and documentation.

* Familiarity with Microsoft computer systems, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
