Job Description

The Opportunity

Manulife Forest Management, Inc., is seeking a qualified candidate to join the team in Texas, based out of a Nacogdoches, Texas office. This position supports forest operations on approximately 143,000 acres in east Texas and SE Oklahoma. Daily assignments are performed in a friendly team environment alongside a diverse group of foresters, managers and administrative personnel. 

A tremendous opportunity to gain proficiency across a diverse landscape with exposure to the following forest management operations; participation in safety program for contractors, stewardship of the environment, advanced pine silviculture, road maintenance, harvesting administration, timber marketing support, reforestation, inventory support, and contractor relations.

An opportunity to work with other MFM staff at various locations across the globe.

Implement Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®) objectives and standards.

Gather and analyze market intelligence to help negotiate prices with area mills.

Build and maintain strong relationships with timber procurement personnel, logging contractors, and MFM personnel in other areas.

Allows individual to collaborate in a team environment while working independently to meet business goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting delivered timber harvesting operations including planning, harvest layout, contract administration, timber security, quality inspections and reporting.
  • Developing site specific silviculture prescriptions, planning, budgeting, implementing and performing quality inspections of all applicable operations.
  • Administering local reforestation programs to ensure successful plantations are reestablished that meet or exceed growth expectations.
  • Update inventory and mapping software in conjunction with resource support personnel.
  • Support regional stewardship activities and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®) Program objectives.
  • Asset protection, working with external consultants, contractors and state agency personnel to ensure casualty losses are minimized.
  • Work with MFM Recreational License Administrators, hunters, and other recreational users to ensure license compliance and maximize non-timber revenue.
  • Participate in special projects to add diversity and broaden skills.
  • Position Requirements:

What are we looking for

  • A bachelor’s degree in Forestry or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years forest management experience desirable. 
  • Valid driver’s license and be insurable with company’s commercial carrier.
  • Strong computer and analytical skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and ArcGIS.  
  • Knowledge or ability to learn and apply key financial concepts to business decisions.
  • Must be team player and have strong communication skills.
  • Client service oriented and self motivated!
  • Completion of drug testing and complying with company's drug and alcohol policy.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Nacogdoches, Texas

Salary range is expected to be between

$46,575.00 USD - $77,625.00 USD

for the salary range for your location. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
