Full Job Description

Basic Function:

Primary function of the Engineer is to perform project management on medium voltage and high voltage cables. This is accomplished through interpretation of industry standards, development of test equipment and procedures, and communication with cross-functional teams. This is primarily handled through our proprietary Database and Test Request System (TSR). The Engineer is also required to be proficient in the use of a PC to generate written reports, and to enter and manipulate test data in the departmental database. These tasks constitute 90% of the Engineers time.

A minor secondary function of the Engineer is to manage the departments safety program. This includes monthly safety meetings, safety training of associates, Developing and executing environmental, health and safety plans for the MTC according to company guidelines, evaluate workplace hazards, and remain in compliance with OSHA.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project Management
  • Prepare test setup, procedures, and work orders per various cable testing standards.
  • Data Entry via PC (Excel©, MTC Proprietary Database, PowerPoint©, SharePoint).
  • Report Generation via PC (Word©, MTC Proprietary Database).
  • Ensures the validity and completeness of test data and reports data through implemented formal review.
  • Manage the HV Training School and maintain training certifications.
  • Manage HV Failure cable analysis / coordinate with HV on accessory failures
  • Champion the Safety Program at the MTC

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • The ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
  • The ability to accurately scope out length and difficulty of tasks and projects; organize work into logical process steps; use time effectively; and establish priorities.
  • The ability to work as an individual or as a team.
  • Demonstrates sound technical skills and attention to detail.
  • Attention to ensure own safety and the safety of others.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to consistently complete tasks on time; persists in the face of obstacles; results oriented.
  • The ability to gather specific information to understand issues and use good problem-solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
  • Able to speak concisely and articulately; asks open-ended questions.
  • .NET programming experience is desired.
  • LabView, SharePoint, PowerApps, and workflow experience are a plus.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent. Some formal laboratory training preferred. Experience in electrical testing field or in a related area is a plus.
  • PC literate; experience with Microsoft Word© and Excel© office software; SharePoint and workflow experience is a plus.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Requires visual and mental attention to details with regards to working around cutting equipment, hot surfaces and materials, high voltage test equipment and accurate recording of results.
  • Requires some lifting and general operation of larger tools and equipment.
  • Somewhat disagreeable working conditions at times due to excess heat, fumes, water, and noise.

Other

Work involves possible exposure to lethal high voltages in electrical test areas, requiring the use of automatic and manual grounding protection.
