About the role:

Were looking for a Staff RF Engineer to join our team. The team is responsible for product development across several Samsara product lines and new technology investigations. In the day-to-day, you will be responsible for championing board-level and system-level RF electronics design. You will lead the design of RF subsystems and products through feasibility, design, development, and validation encompassing chipset selection and antenna for Cellular, Wi-Fi, BT, GPS, UWB, Satellite, etc. We run a collaborative process working closely with customers, PM, EE, PD, SW, EPM, Rel, and QA to make excellent decisions.

In this role, you will:

Create RF subsystem architecture, design, develop, and test RF circuits, modules, and antenna through all phases of the development process

Review board-level schematic design and PCB layout of RF circuits and system-level integration via simulation or link budgets analysis etc.

Bring up RF subsystems and enable product teams to develop next-generation products or new product proof of concept

Characterize and validate board-level and system-level RF subsystem performance and design margins

Root cause analysis for build failures or field failures, and implement design changes accordingly

Conduct research: stay abreast of the latest wireless technologies from all the top semiconductor companies and evaluate the leading edge technologies, including 4G/5G Cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth, GNSS, UWB, mmWave, Satellite, and more

Integrate EVKs to showcase new technology concepts and demos to contribute to Samsaras product roadmap

Actively participate in sampling customer experience and improving product performance

Work closely with product teams to manage top JDM companies to design, validate, certify, and manufacture quality products in high-volume

Champion, role model, and uplevel the cross-functional team to exhibit Samsara values and leadership principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Growth Mindset, Win as a Team)

Minimum requirements for the role:

10+ years of professional industry experience in RF circuits and module development

Proficient in board-level schematic design and PCB layout of RF circuits

Experience working on 4G/5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, Satellite communication

Experience working with RF chipset or module vendors, test instrument suppliers, JDM partners, and shipping high-quality products

Proficient in simulation tools such as CST and ADS, as well as EDA tools such as Altium or Cadence

Experience with lab instruments such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and oscilloscopes

Ability to deal with product requirements ambiguity and design trade-offs

Bachelors or masters in RF engineering or similar

Good written and verbal communication skills

This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area

An ideal candidate also has:

Experience with antenna simulation and design is a plus.

EMI/EMC design and mitigation techniques

Thrives in an environment that requires rapid deployment and product iteration based on customer feedback

Practical knowledge of Wi-Fi, BLE, LTE, 5G, satellite, GNSS, etc.

Experience in building RF labs for hardware development, characterization, validation, failure analysis, etc.

Forward-thinking to build processes, identify opportunities, solve hardware technical problems, and a go-to person for any RF related technical issues

Experience in system engineering best practices and product compliance and certification and regulation considerations, including FCC, PTCRB, CTIA, ETSI, TIA/EIA, etc.
